    Nice forum you have here.

I'm soon to get back on 2 wheels after a 7 year hiatus (and what a terrible decision that was!)

I first got on a motorcycle when I was 4 years old, and have been hooked ever since. I laid away my first street bike the winter before I turned legal to ride one.

I've owned standards, sport bikes and cruisers, and love 'em all.

The VFR has always been a bike I admired, but never made the opportunity to own. The closest I came was a shiny new VTR1000 Firestorm (or Super Hawk as our American cousins called it) the first year they hit the market. And they're really a different machine altogether...

As I've matured, I've learned that purchasing anything brand new which bears tires is foolhardy in the extreme, I'm shopping for a used VFR, likely in the 2000-2001 vintage (though there seem to be a few up to about 2005 in a similar price range here.)

Forums like this are the best resource for information sharing ever contrived! I'm looking forward to the wealth of knowledge I'm sure can be found here, and will happily chip in any gems I have for the greater good!

Here's the biggest one I have. I snatched it from the interwebs of course.

I really love the looks of the G5 a little bit better than the G6; also, finances will dictate what bike I end up on. I'm willing to spend $5-6000 on the bike, with a budget left over for a new helmet and what work the machine might need, like brakes, tires etc.

From what I've been able to gather, the FI was improved somewhat in 2000, so that's why I'm focused mostly on the tail end of the 5th Generation bikes.

I paid $4900CDN for my '06... it was already safetied. However... it's not exactly in "mint condition". nothing $300 worth of paint wont fix. what a bike.

I will admit... I took advantage of the fact I was buying pre-season.. and the guy really wanted and/or needed to sell the bike.

thanks for the pic man *tip of the hat*

How many klicks on your '06 for that price? I assume by the paint comment that it had been laid down or tipped over?

Welcome aboard! $5-6000 can get you a 6th gen.

Welcome aboard! The 1998-2001 VFR is considered a 5th Generation VFR and is among the most popular models since it was the last generation with gear driven cams and fuel injection. I personally would choose a 1998 or 1999 model over the 2000-2001 because the earlier 5th Gens also had catless headers. You can definately get a good deal on a slightly used 6th Gen but some people prefer the older models because they feel a little more sporty and they don't have the VTEC engine which some people find a bit annoying.

I have to be honest; I love the high-mount exhaust on the 6th Gen, but the pointy beak just isn't quite as sexy in my eyes!

Welcome, Silverado. I have a 6th gen and I love. I think the vtec anxieties are over rated, but I do have to admit that I also think that the aesthetics of the 5th gen are better than the 6th gen. But somehow my garage makes any bike look really good :). Good luck on your search, and don't wait too long!

:welcome: I also have a 6th gen and wouldn't trade her for the world, nicest bike I've ever ridden. I too like the looks of the 5th gen though, very sexy bike. Hopefully I'll fall into a decent 5th gen as a second bike to fix up later on!

Welcome aboard northern neighbor! Like you, I had a long (12 yr) hiatus from riding. Since I had ridden an '86 VF500 for ten years (86-96), I opted for another Interceptor and bought a new '07 in Sep of '08. It is, without a doubt, the finest two-wheeled machine I've ever owned, and I plan to ride it for a long, long time. Good luck in your search. Be sure to let us know what you get (with pics!).

Welcome. We are staging to revolt against the imperialist American Machine. We shall succeed. Soon the Maple Leaf will fly over the White House. We are going to change the name to the Big Igloo though. Big Ig for short

I'll tell you what: you can have ALL the Labatt's Blue, but Obama stays stateside. We've got all the hope'n'change we can handle, thanks.
