My girlfriend just started riding bikes and has no gear when we go out I always give her my coat and gloves, I had two helmets so we both always have those on but I HATE riding without my armor, I'm broke right now so money is an opponent of mine but I need to get her jacket pants, and gloves. Also would like to know about good place to buy new helmet mine is 4 years old and cannot be cleaned (stinky). Thanks for any help

I have had good luck with newenough.com. Here's a link: New Enough. Check out their closeouts and bargain basement items. I went to the local shop to try on helmets, found my correct size, and then ordered it from them. I bought a $200 helmet for $89 + shipping. I also just got a Scorpion leather jacket, normally priced at $400, for $150 + shipping. They have great deals all the time. Check them out. Good luck

+1 for Scorpion gear. Me and the ol lady both wear EXO 700 helmets. I have the Cool Rod mesh jacket for summer and she has the Nip Tuck. Their summer/mesh gloves leave some durability to be desired IMO. I wore out a pair of Cool Hand's real quick. Now we both run Icon Pursuit gloves. BTW I've allready wrecked with a Cool Rod jacket , EXO 700 (that didn't even touch the ground) and a pair of Pursuit's on. They all saved my bacon, and I pegged a car!

Edit: Yes, you CAN get cheaper gear, but IMO every penny is well spent with Scorpion gear with the exception of the gloves.

Just to warn you, there are usually no returns or exchanges on closeout items so you have to be 100% positive what you are ordering is the right size. To make it even worst, it is not uncommon for different jackets made by the same company to fit different even when they are the same size. I had to sell my last Fieldsheer jacket on Craigslist because it was way too small and didn't fit even though I already owned a very similar Fieldsheer jacket in the same exact size that fit perfectly. Also keep in mind that the way stuff looks on a webpage can be different from real life, especially the color. I got pretty pissed off once when the blue jacket I ordered arrived and it was actually purple and due to the fact that it was a closeout item it was not returnable/exchangable. Check Craigslist and you'll see lots of people selling gear for this exact reason.

Please don't skimp on gear. You can't go wrong with top of the line used/last years/close-out stuff. Still better than new "cheap" stuff for about the same price. If you have to save money, then skimp on beer, not on gear.

Ebay and bikebandit have done well by my family... as far as brands, Joe Rocket and Scorpion make gear that seems to fit women well... but, as has been stated already, DON'T SKIMP. I'm a broke-ass dude, but even I don't just buy what's cheap. Havin' no $ is a country-wide problem, so pick a doable budget, and work within that; but remember, no gear is expensive when you compare it to the price of surgery or a funeral...

And besides, wouldn't ya feel bad if ya spill and she gets hurt? Armor your lady, she'll love you for it.

You might also want to keep an eye on craigslist or kijiji, that and any local bike forums with a for sale section. It's that time of year up here and people that buy new bikes in the spring are always looking to unload their "old" gear since it doesn't match their new bikes.

Like everyone else has all ready said, don't buy a used lid. Get one new. You never know what the previous guy did to it. Figure out the size you need, then order online. Newenough, motorcyclesuperstore, bikebandit, are all good for closeouts. Awesome deals for a song. Again, good luck.

If you're not in a big hurry see if there are any motorycle shows in your area, there usually are good deals.

As Joey stated you can get very good deals on gear at the Motorcycle shows. If you decide to do this it is best to go on the last day of the show which is usually Sunday since the merchants are packing up their stuff and would rather sell it for cheap than take it with them.

Allthough that's a good idea to get a bargain, this also makes it harder to find the specific style, color, or size you need because the vendors only bring so much stuff with them, just my two cents on that.
