I was out ridding today and my friggin hands hurt!! ( No jokes please!!!)

I think it may be the G@y superbike grips on the bike...

Does anyone recommend a more comfortable brand?

    Is Gel any good?

    What actually hurts?

    Are your hands going numb?

    Are your wrists aching?

Are you getting hot spots on the webs between your fingers?

If your hands are going numb, try a pair of HVMP bar ends. They've been on every bike I've owned for the last 15 years. They do make a difference. Mix them in with a set of Pro Grip 724's & you're set.

If your wrists ache, you are probably not using your core muscles to support your body. This is a common mistake among sport riders. You should feel like you've done a few set of sit-ups after you get off a sport bike. Try bracing yourself with your abs the next time you ride.

If you get hot spots, you probably have ill fitting gloves. They only option here is to try new gloves.

    KC-10 FE out...

what are G@y superbike grips......I hope i don't have those LOL
are you relaxed when you ride or are hanging on to the bars with a death like grip? if you are totally relaxed and only use bars for inputs to control bike your hands and arms shouldn't hurt.

In the beginning of the riding season, my palms tend to hurt a bit. It takes a while to get all acclimated to riding again. But I think the biggest thing is using my core muscles to hold me up and not just my hands and arms. Even retraining myself to do that takes a while, especially as I get tired at the end of long ride. Towards the end, I find I am locking my elbows and leaning on my hands too much. At 5'9", I also have to sit a pretty close to the tank or I tend to lean on my hands too much. Plus being closer to the bars and having my arms relaxed helps me corner better.

    What is your age?

The aggressive riding position leaning forward and so much weight is placed on the fore arms with sportbikes.

I would agree that getting off your wrists would help, but I also found the stock grips lacking and based on advice from others here I picked up some ProGrip 699 gel grips and it made it a lot better. The rest went away when i bought a new set of gloves. So I would get new grips and if your gloves don't fit great or move around get new ones as well.

+1 for Chomper. It may be a difficult thing to overcome, but most people when riding a MC, bicycle, driving a car or whatever, have a death grip on the handle. Concentrate on holding the handlebars with only enough energy to accomplish what you are trying to do, which is operate the controls. Hold onto the grips like you would handle a woman's breast, not a cow's teete. Like KC says, you should be gripping the bike with your knees. And for routine riding, that grip need not be like the scissor lock in Pro Wrestling. You are not trying to choke the bike out, just stabilizing yourself on the seat.

So these will not turn to goo in 100+ temps in the sun like spider grips do?

Stay away from spider grips if you do not like black goo sticking to your gloves, hands, tank, visor, etc....

I agree with sam, Harris grips were a cheap and brilliant investment for me... they cost me like $12, and with the addition of a crampbuster later I have the most comfy grips out of my whole family's bikes...

(P.S. I hafta point out, I added the crampbuster cuz I was doin' long distance freeway rides, and tryin' to hold the throttle steady for long periods was causin' my fingers to go numb... using the 'buster I can control throttle with my palm, solved my problem)
