Everything I've read and heard about Lucas oil has been poor to bad. Most test it fall near the bottom.

I just use the honda oil and oil filter, I am a service manager at a brp dealership and seen guys wreck sleds and bikes using aftermarket oils, I can buy amsoil at cost but I and have been told it will work, but I still go to the honda dealer and buy the right stuff for my bike at full retail, oil is cheap, engines are expensive, I love my vfr and the joy it gives me to ride it, and if I have to pay an extra few bucks to keep her running great thats ok with me. I am sure lots of other less expensive oils will work ok, but not for my ride.

What tests (specifically) were you reading? I looked at a couple of UOA's showing a dozen or so major brands of M/C specific oils showing them second to amsoil in most of the tested categories. Only long oil change intervals seemed to be their weakness, but I have used their 10/40 semi syn in all my bikes for the past few yes to no I'll effect including a cbr900rr with 65k mi, ran/shifted perfect, 1994 st1100 with 65k exactly like I bought it at 35k mi, a 2000 vfr with 60 100 percent perfect (in fact I noticed a major improvement in shifting smoothness with their oil, and my current bike, a 1991 st1100 with 115k mi, runs like the day it left the factory. I have had 14 Hondas in the last 3 years, all of them like Lucas oil products. I tried rotella in my st and the shifting was nasty as hell
Immediately went back to Lucas oil. It is an excellent value for the money in my educated opinion. Previous owner of my ST used amsoil
Shifting was horrendous. I love the smoothness of Lucas and especially in my vfr it was so smooth sometimes there was no audible clank shifting from neutral to first at stoplights. I highly recommend it, as someone who uses and evaluates it from real world experience, many many many miles instead of just googling one amsoil test paid for by the same company.

I have to say. With the exception of possibly a small few here, i really don't understand the big deal on brand names of oils. I haven't read any of the tests refered to here and other places, but, hey peeps. We are not racing these things where the stakes are high. We are not really trying to preserve these machines as pristine specimins of motorcycles. We ride them. We want them to be reliable and operate in a manner they were designed to do. All this talk about this oil and that, or some brand of filter or another is getting to be a little much. Again, there are exceptions.

For the first several years I bought into the hype and ran Motul semi synthetic in mine. Now I run Rotella T6. Another reason for this oil, is I can use the same thing in my diesel truck and my wife and son's Honda Civics. None of them are high performance race machines either.

I used to insist on OEM oil filters and now buy Bosh at Wally World when I can find them. I buy them 4 or 5 at a time because strangely enough, the same filter is used on the two Civics as on my bike. I change the oil a couple thousand KM ahead of what the owner's manual states. But really what is important here is how the bike performed. Well since I bought it in the crate in 2006, I have racked about 189,000 km on it. That's about 117,500 miles. Several long hard trips, two of which were very hard riding.

There you go. Be reasonable about your oil, No WD40 of Slick 50. Make sure it has no friction reducers in it and that it is motorcycle safe. Change it regularily and Bob's your uncle. Your guys with the performance bikes or who may fall into the exception category, carry on.

Let the flaming begin. Understand though, this is a 7 year old thread but other threads on filters and oils have shown up recently.

I am working part time at a local Honda (Auto) dealer and notices all Honda & Accura cars used the same filter as our bikes. Mechanics also have preset torque wrenches from Honda for lug nuts!
