You could probably burn diesel in one of these things, but not recommended.

I use whatever midgrade. Regular works just fine, but I was unnerved by hearing the motor ping all the time, so I switched. Too many years riding old Brit Bikes, when pinging from the engine could often spell an impending disaster.

You are wasting your money on premium gas unless you are experiencing pre-ignition engine knocking. Higher octange gas does not result in any power increase, it is designed to burn slower than lower octane.

I believe that is a myth. At least in the US. The same degerents are in all of the grades. In Utah (or higher elevation/mtn states) regular is 85 octane. Unless your vehicle calls it out, I think it is more important where you guy your gas, than what octane it is.

If by "regular" gas you mean lower octane you are correct. The lower the octane rating the less resistance there is to burn, ie more volatile. The higher octane rating is purely and only made to prevent pre-ignition (knock) for higher cylinder pressure and higher compression engines.

+1 VFR Lover, the source of your fuel and the time it has been sitting makes all the difference in the quality of the fuel and the power you can get from it. The detergent quality and ammount is supposed to be the same across all octanes. That being said there are fuel stations/companies that are classified as "Top Tier" fuel stations. This basically means that their fuel contains more, or more effective detergents, in the fuel to help keep a cleaner engine. You should be able to google Top Tier fuel stations and come up with a list of stations that qualify in your area.

We have gone through this once before that I am aware of but none the less, occasional refreshers are good.

When I bought mine "in the crate" in August 06, the mechanic at the shop I bought it from suggested I burn mid grade or 91 so I did for several months. The low an behold, I read the owner's manual. It said to burn regular or 89. So I switched. I observed absolutely no difference in performance or gas mileage burning the lower octain fuel. But the price difference is substantial. I don't know what the manual for a 91 says, but that is what you should burn. That manual obviously was put together in consultation with the engineers who developed your engine so it makes sence, they would know best what to burn.

I have 91,000 km on mine, mostly burning the cheap stuff and it still runs like a cat.
