Purchasing a 2007 RWB with 0 miles on Saturday for $7,000. I have wanted one for awhile, however have never ridden a streetbike before, only cruisers (450-660lbs).
What advice does the VFR community have for owning and riding...what issues may arise from a bike that has been sitting new for 3 years?

Cost of ownership for first 1000 miles?

New tires for daily and long ride use?

Welcome and congrats on the new ride.
I would check the simple things first, torque values and fluids. After that just ride and enjoy. Cost of ownership isn't much especially if you do your own work. Personally, I'd spend a couple bucks on a service manual and do the work yourself. The amount of money you'll save is staggering and the work isn't hard if you can read and take your time, no rushing.

Oh, and read the forums here. Lots and Lots and Lots and Lots of good info from oil to tires to quirks with the bike. You name it someone else has been through it.

I recently got a Red 07. Only maintenance in the first 1000 was air pressure and oil change. You do want to do the first one at 600 or just a little less. I waited till 700 and it was very dirty. Other than that I rode the stock tires till I got a flat rear and just replaced that one. They are not the best tires in the world but unless your racing they seem to work fine (there are other opinions on here).

Other then that ride it and post picks.

If you become a member of VFRD you can download the service manual here. This is also another great site.

Welcome! It takes a little getting use to the riding position coming off a cruiser and a little time getting use to running at higher rpms, so don't fret if it doesn't feel comfortable at first. There are some good posts on this site about using your core muscles and keeping your arms relaxed, etc. With a little practice, you will love the bike.

Also, if you haven't taken the MSF Courses (BRC and ERC), then do so. There is one out there called the Advanced Rider Course. It's based on the military sportbike course. Google it if you need more info. It's a good course to take if you've never ridden a sportbike. Also, get gear if you don't allready have it.

Welcome to the forum. Post pics when you can. Also, if you want, update your profile with at least the state where you live. Alot of people see where you are from and some good connections come out of it. I joined here and within about a week found about 6 people within about 1 hour of where I live, and a few from neighboring states. Good contacts. Good luck.

You won't need tires for awhile. I got 4000 miles out of my first set.

Wow, wish I'd have waited, I bought mine January 09(you are buying about a grand cheaper than I did!). However, had I waited, I might not have bought one at all, just never know.

Of the three most recent new bikes I've owned, I changed my first oil at around 350 and again at 700. Of those three bikes, the VFR was spotless at the 700 change, but it was amazing how much shizzle was in the oil on all three bikes at 350 miles. Zero issues with mine, my dealer put a fresh battery in. Their bikes sit on the floor without batteries, but they didn't install the battery that was crated with mine, which I am thankful for, because those are an expensive maintenance item. Tire are OK, but having had a set of Bridgestone BT021s on my (now gone) F4i, that will be the tire of choice for me. I have Diablo Stradas on my RR, both are sport touring tires, and I loved the handling of those BT021s better.

If you decide to go with factory bags, you have a choice. Either 07 factory blue bags, or the 06 Pearl Whites (what I chose).

Where the heck did you find an '07 RWB for $7000? They've got one remaining in my area for $9499, an abs model. The candy red one is selling for $7499. I think that's a bit high for me.

New bikes are like new shoes, they feel a little ackward at first but you will quickly get used to them and feel much more comforatable within a few days . Just take it slow at first and don't try to push your limits until you know what the bike is capable of. Practice riding early in the morning when there is little traffic out and pick some easy roads or parking lots to get used to the way the bike accelerates, turns, and handles. Most important don't take a passenger out with you until you are 100% confident in your transition. I made the mistake of letting my Harley riding brother-in-law take my 3rd Gen VFR to the mountains after only 2 days of riding sport bikes and I'm sure you can guess what happened next. He is a very experienced rider and never wrecked prior to that but he found out the hard way that cruisers and sport bikes are two very different beasts. Good luck!!

Maryland Honda Yamaha Kawasaki Suzuki Triumph Polaris Sea Doo Can Am Spyder Motorcycle ATV Dealer and Sales - watercraft, scooter, moped, generator - Pete's Cycle (baltimore, MD) had two 2007 RWB VFRs and now they only have one. Both were prices at $7,000 and both had no miles. They wouldn't work with me on the price but I got some other free stuff. The other place that has a 2007 VFR with no miles for sale is New Jersey, Motorcycles, Honda, Suzuki, Motorcycles, ATV, dealer, Cycle World of Cherry Hill (New Jersey), Cycle World has purchased "14" 2007 VFRs 7 red and 7 RWB. They price has gone up quite a bit in the last 2 months. They were first advertised as $6,800 each in January and now the red are going for 7,500 and the RWB for 7,200. You can find them on ebay. Price goes up the warmer it gets.

Okay, the purchase of the new bike went very well. I was completely surprised at how easy it was to ride the VFR having never riden a sport bike before. My only complaint is something I will get used to. First, left hand gets raw after a few miles from the forward leaning pressure I put on the handle bars you really have to use your legs to grip the bike and focus on siting with your back straight. The other is the clutch lever, once it breaks in it will be no issue using it, have a couple of blisters from gripping while riding in a neighborhood with lots of stop signs. After only a few miles I took it out on the open road and I was thrilled. So far, I am very impressed with the the bike and am all smiles.

yo, NoVA here too, if you want to ride some weekend, pls PM me...

on your wrists hurting, the trick is to hold yourself up with your knees/hips. If your wrists hurt, you are hanging on the bars too hard. Your arms should be able to flap while riding.

Expect the battery to die and the tires to really suck. I have about 2200 miles on mine so far since sept 29 09.

The battery gave out on it after about 2 months and the tires really really suck on it ! I just waiting to get closer to the primary riding season before i swap tires.

the battery issue is totally avoidable - as is the rectifier issue that plagues some VFRs. Installl a hardwire battery tender. If you arent riding the bike it should be on the tender. I am still on my original battery and rectifier since 1992!. As to the tires, there are tons of threads.
