EBC makes some upgraded rotors, that are cross-drilled. That is the route I plan to take, one day. I think they were around $180 each, though. The only other option I know is to find a used set. I'll be watching this thread to see what others have found.

I'd like new front rotors but I haven't found any new ones that aren't too much $$

both front and rear, front most importantly. the only ebc rotors I could find were the rear though. $540 is just way too much money to dump on brake rotors for a 25 year old motorcycle, for me anyways.

I don't think there is a difference between the front rotors of the 86......but with all the little changes who knows.

Anyone jumped on these yet? I'm about to take the plunge. I have one front that's warped and the rear is grooved. I figure get a set of these for the front and move the good front disk to the rear. Same disk, right? According to EBC's application guide the front and rear are MD1006.

These are the one's I'm looking at: Honda NS400/VFR400/VF500/FJS600 Front Brake Rotor 85-87: eBay Motors (item 250541717572 end time Jun-30-10 20:19:33 PDT). Pretty much the same thing as the link above except they're from China instead of Austalia. You really can't beat the price, and the feedback is good, so.....

I've got a VF500F, so I don't think these will work. I went ahead and bit the bullet on the ones in post #13. Will provide a full report once installed and a follow-up after I get some miles on them.

I believe they should work. My only concern would be thickness, but magnifying auctions photo reveals thickness limit to be 4.5 mm so they should be the 5mm version which is the correct one.
Many bikes share the same size disc as the VF500, even the CB 1300, but in most cases it is placed at the rear wheel.

My new rotors came in today. Fitment was perfect. They were straight as an arrow. I'm probably going to get new pads. Current ones are EBC but GG, not HH, so the stopping power is not the best, but better than stock. I'm used to very powerful brakes - radial calipers and master cylinder on a CBR1000RR - so my expectations are a bit high. The current pads are also not perfectly flat, though I did run them across some sandpaper a bit. Still, they're not fully broken in yet. They look really good and do add a modern touch to the overall looks of the bike.
