    Hey everyone.

I'm looking at a VFR750 that is being sold locally in my area. I am hoping to move up to a more touring friendly and reliable bike than my 1986 VF500.

    It is a Black 1992 VFR750.

It has 52,000kms (32,400 Miles) and he says it hardly been ridden and it does need brakes. (Pads I'm assuming)

He is asking $2,800 CDN ($2,650 USD)

Here's the Ad: 1992 Honda Interceptor - Toronto Sport Touring Motorcycles For Sale - Kijiji Toronto

Can anyone see any reason NOT to buy this bike or anything from the pics that isn't right. (i.e. color, decals, obvious problems/damage)

Also, can anyone give me any advice on what to look for when I go look at the bike? (Specifically for the VFR)

Thanks in advance.....I'd like to step up from my first gen.

    -Matt

Looks pretty good from the pics. Of course, my 98 did too. I found some other blemishes after I saw it in person. Can you go take a look?

Other than that, I don't know much about that year VFR. Others will be along soon to help out.

    Thanks for the reply DS.

I will hopefully be looking at it tomorrow or Monday evening.

Hopefully after looking at it and finding a few things wrong I'll talk him down to $2500 or so.

I would be leary of buying a vehicle that I couldnt test drive ( or ride ).
Bike looks good and the price seems fair.
Good Luck! I like the gen 3's ( obviously ).

looks reasonable. I would ask what "brake job" means - if rotors are warped, factor $400 or so, if its just pads, then $100 plus time to change pads/fluid

The selling price is not great but fair in my opinion and I've kept a close eye on 3rd Gen VFR's for several years. The bike appears to be in good condtion from the pics but keep in mind that it is 18 years old. Aside from any major warning signs such as leaking, excessive valve ticking or engine knocking the bike should still have plenty of miles left in her. The plastics on a bike this age will be very brittle and you will find that the tabs that hold the fairings together are easily broken or damaged. Make sure to remove the seat and check just forward of the tail-light where the tail fairings mount to the subframe. This is one of the most commonly damaged pieces of plastic and is a pain in the arse to fix if broken. Also check the fork seals carefully for leaking and make sure to hold the front brake and compress the forks a few times and then look for any freshly leaked fluid. Other things to check for include unever wearing on the tires or damage to the wheels. If you are really serious about the bike and have cash in hand the owner shouldn't have a problem removing at least the mid and lower fairings prior to purchase so you can check for broken tabs and repairs to the plastics from underneath. New bodywork is very expensive and hard to find for these older bikes and aftermarket bodywork isn't very good quality from what I've heard. One more thing, these bikes tend to put out alot of heat on the right side near your thigh so don't get worried unless the whole frame start to get very hot which could indicate that the R/R unit isn't dissipating heat very well and could require replacement.

    Regards,
    Rollin

    Ok.

Buddy isn't returning my phone call/E-Mail

So I am looking at another VFR:

vfr750f - Toronto Sport Touring Motorcycles For Sale - Kijiji Toronto

It looks in MUCH better shape than the others I've been looking at. The owner replies to my e-mails right away and gives up information about the bike easily.

    Info:

    83,500kms (52,000Miles)
Asking $3,500CDN ($3,300USD) Or Best Offer.
Valve Clearances checked in July 09
Carbs cleaned and Synch'd in July 09
    New Front Tire
    1 Season on rear
    1 Season on Chain
Rear Suspension Removed, Cleaned, and greased last summer
    New Hub Bearings
    New Brakes all around
    New Battery
    New R&R Installed Last August
    New Seat Cover

So yea.....it's more expensive and has higher mileage than the others I'm looking at....but this one seems to be in good shape and well taken care of.

    Hmmmm

    Thanks Rollin.

I would like to point out to anyone offering advice to me in this thread (which I greatly appreciate) that prices for Motorcycles up here in Canada, and especially in the Souther Ontario are REALLY HIGH. Especially compared to US Prices.

It's very very hard to find a bike that isn't in shambles below $2,500
