I love my VFR and only plan to sell it if I am gonna get another one. I did find and bought an 03 Special Edition Yamaha R1 with only 3,610 miles. The bike is in stock condition with no scratches and no real wear on the tires. The R1 is low and really does feel like a 600cc bike size wise. I found the bike online last Thursday at Cycle Exchange in Andover, N.J. I am in NYC and there was a storm coming so I decided to go get the bike on Fri and ride it back to NYC. I had to use public transportation to get to Andover from NYC and the guy at the shop had someone come pick me up at the train station. I had a really good experience with Cycle Exchange and highly recommend them and plan on doing more business with them. I came to the shop geared up and also had my troggs rain suit in my backpack. I went over the bike and when it was time to leave it was raining lightly. I have never been to Andover, NJ and have never rode an R1 and had no owners manual. I stopped at the frist gas station to get my directions together and text a few friends in NJ in case I needed to stop. I used google maps on my Blackberry and set a route back to NYC - Rt 206 E to I 80 E to 280 E to 95N. When I took off the bike felt nice and stable even in the rain and I was leaning on the first turn. The only issue I had was my foot position for the shifter lever. I was rolling nice and smooth in the rain but my glasses and visor was fogging. I lifted my visor and started to pull off my glasses and they just flew out of my hands. I looked down and in the far left corner there is a digital readout showing 86mph - holy crap!!!! This bike is rolling strong and steady and I was only in second gear. I was grinning ear to ear even though the rain had picked up I felt like I had the perfect weapon and could defend myself out on the road in any circumstance. I kept my speed under 90 mph and played with 2nd and third gear on the bike. When I got back to NYC and off the highway to head to my house I saw the low fuel light come on. Perfect timing but I will get gas later - the Froggs Toggs rainsuit kept me dry and helped keep me warm in the wind, and my AlpineStars Ridge boots kept my feet dry. I should have changed my gloves but my hands did not get too cold. I really like my newly acquired R1. Now a need a new VFR to sit next to it.

Congrats on the new ride! Post up some pictures if the storm that just blew through didn't blow the bike away. Sounds like you may have a track day in your near future...

I do ARC coaching and trackdays in Poconos and Monticelo. I was down at NJ MotorSports and may check the Lightning Track this year. I really want to go to VIR. I am also going to Deal's Gap, been going there for years and have family in NC. I really like the R1 and will need to decide if I want to re-do my VFR or upgrade to the 6th Gen with the VTEC. I have been looking at a 06 White VFR.

Congrats Emon. Hope you enjoy the bike; sounds like you already are!

I know the place you are talking about - I live about 10 miles from there. If you ever find yourself back out this way - whether its for fun or "not so fun", send me a PM. Would always be nice to meet a fellow member. And while it was very considerate of them to pick you up at the train station, I'd have no problem helping you out.

Congrats! I know the lure of the liter bike! I rediscover that crazy-sexy power every time I ride my ZX-10R. You have two great bikes now. Just be safe out there, eh?

Hey fellas thanks a lot - really like this forum. Pliskin thanks for the offer and I will be checking with you. I had never been to Andover and Rt 206 is nice a grippy - really like Andover and got a good sandwich at the QuikChek by the Netcong train station. I gotta do something nice for my VFR so she will not get jealous of the R1 lol. CycleExchange is a good place with good people and a nice assortment of bikes in great condition.

What color is the special edition ?

A riding buddy baught the '02 Silver Black in '02 then an '04 in Black Silver, both look stunning on the road and more comfortable and easier to ride than they look. Mind he recently added riser bars clip ons and double bubble on the '04 after wrist issues caused by jack hammering during home renovations.

    His old '02

Let us know how your back feels after a 2 -3 hour ride...........?

There aren't many places to ride where you can use even HALF that power, certainly not aound NYC.

Congratulations on picking up your R1 Emon07. Those Yammy R1's are real beasts. My buddy Jeff has an all black '05 R1 Raven. The thing is an absolute brute. The motors in those R1's aren't just awesome Emon07,they are FREAKIN AWESOME! In my humble opinion the R1 truly IS one of those "for experts only" kind of machines. They're actually very smooth and geared kinda tall so they're pretty docile for tooling around town, but get them out on the open road and "Holy Smokers" hang on to your skivvies! Take care, ride safe, and have fun with it.
