I find the bike is still hard to start with the choke...I have to really careful with the choke setting or the bike will stall...WTF?

Could this be due to an intake leak? Any ideas?

I noticed the plugs are fouled.....hmmm I do have a jet kit....

You need to take the carbs off and inspect , clean , replace the boots if needed and remove jet kit if installed and synch. Should run like a top after that.

USING too much choke for too long WILL cause a stall.

If your bike is in good condition, choke should not be necessary after about 30-45 seconds.

Yeah the boots at the base of the carbs, and no I am not a fan of jet kits. Most I have removed made the owners happier to have there bikes running normally. Not much if anything to be gained but a shitty running bike in most cases.

    Hi Toe,

Thats what i thought...who would ever think that a small company could jet better than the thousands of engineers at Honda?

I will remove the jetkit this weekend...is there anything i should know when installing the stock needles? Do i crazy glue them in? Is there an amount of turns required?

    thanks again!

Seems like some clogging in the idle jets. Try running some SeaFoam cleaner through the carbs, and if that doesn't help it's probably time for manual carb cleaning.....

A jet kit should have nothing to do with starting problems, but dirty plugs can.

    Always worth a try !!

Your plugs could appear fouled from at least 56causes: excess use of choke and prolonged idling, wrong jetkit settings, wrong plugs for the bike, wrong float level, dirty air filter, or low electrical output.

The slides will have an 8mm size socket in the center and a quater turn will release and remove with needle nose pliers. Needle just sits in the slide with one shim under it.

is this the same place as where the floats are?

I found a jet that had the number 124 stamped on it i had 120's in the jet kit and installed them instead..reasoning that 120 would flow less fuel as I do not have the stock pieces to replace this kit.

BTW the jet kit was made by motovan and looking at the specs completely useless under 75 mph...

    thanks again ToE

What numbers are stamped on your idle jets ???

Stock or did PO replace them ??

Changing main jets won't help starting at all.

"Motovan" ??? Anyone ever heard of that b4 ???

Check float levels according to instructions in service manual.

124 is stamped on the jet...i replaced them with ones in the kit stamped 120.

I am also going to change the needles back to stock and put the stock pipe back on

Slight correction needed: the 120 is your MAIN jet, not the smaller idle jet, which should be somewhere around 40-45.

Again, needles are part of the main jet fuel area, NO effect on starting.
