No names in this one kids, I will leave it to your imagination to protect the innocent

Got together with 5 VFR Board riders today from SoVa and MD for a “come see Virginia” ride. We all rolled up at a nearby gas stationz and one of the guys came on a 91 from Richmond. Anyway the route was 55, 647, 211, GWNF etc – a ride all of you have done…

About 6 miles down 647 from Marshall the group got really spread out – I was leading and running 10-20 over as usual and noticed that the 2 guys in the back kept falling behind in the turns and then caught up on the straights.. so I knew they were having issues with cornering and decided to stop 3 miles up at Leeds Manor road. 2 miles later there was a silver impala in the middle of the pack. He went lights on and came around the front of me and pulled us over.

Exited the car with hand on gun, unbuckled . I promptly removed my helmet and then started saying my prayers. It was on the straight right after thumb run so I figured he has me at 90+ in a 45. Anyway he pulls the group over:

    · points at me and screams “RECKLESS DRIVING – GOING TO JAIL”
    · points at a guy following me on a White 2006 screams – “RECKLESS DRIVING, PASSING ON DOUBLE YELLOW, GOING TO JAIL”
    · next guy red 2002 = “SPEEDING”
    · next guy “SPEEDING”
    · last guy “SPEEDING”

collects all of our info (helmets off at this stage) asks guy #5 on 91 from Richmond (not known to me)
“do you have a license” – no
“do you have insurance” – no
“do you have registration” – no
“are these plates to this bike” – no

Spends a crapload of time in the car (40 mins easy) and comes out and asks to see everyone’s inspection stickers (mine is 1992 when the bike rolled off showroom floor). Mr 91 didn’t have, everyone else OK.

Tells Mr. 91 that he will write him up for no registration and must be towed – illegal to ride on road. They towed him to Marshall 7/11 ($175) and his wife picked him up with a trailer. Wouldn’t let me go home and fetch my trailer to help him out.

I got a “no inspection ticket” - $25 – non moving violation and a “take it easy through here, you should know better” talk. Everyone else got off scott free.

    Continued ride - abbreviated ....

There was no excuse for the officer to threaten you that way. You need to immediately contact his superior and ask for an investigation. I was 7 months pregnant when the driver of the car I was in got pulled over for going 10 mph over the limit (that was the accusation anyways). The officer threatened to draw on us because the driver had a concealed carry permit. He also said that the next time he pulls us over he will have his pistol drawn. We asked for an investigation and of course they said he did nothing wrong but I would like to think one cop may be held accountable for his actions.

And cause I know we all love pics............

Here's us meeting up at the Sheetz
    [IMG]

And here's where we stopped after riding a bit more post "festivities"

So, we're all really happy to be back home now, cause we could have wound up somewhere else. Luckily, the LEO didn't take a look at one of our GPS' or we might not be typing this up right now (hint, see "max speed")

SOMEBODY was in one hell of a hurry to meet up this mornin............

Sounds like the LEO that you were harrassed by was a real dumbass, sorry to hear that Shorty. The one that got us really had us dead to rights, he was quite amped up at first but it subsided once he realized we were'nt gonna really give him any problems. I'm pissed that it happened, and that a couple of us (not I) got screwed a little, or a lot, but it could have been much worse. I don't think contacting any superiors will serve to do anything but stir the pot.

Edit: ok, maybe he wasn't "acting" like a dumbass, just talking to you like he was. Gotta think afore I type...........

Well. Even in my easy going opinion, if I was in a location that allowed you to carry a gun, fucken rights I would at least have my hand on my gun and the gun unlocked. Like that really takes a lot of thought. What would you suggest a cop do? Wait until you draw a bead on him to pull his weapon? I would most likely have it drawn but down at my side, more or less out of sigh. Like I have done on occasion. Waiting any longer could very well be too late. And pardon my bluntness Shorty, but better you go to the hospital than me. Pregnant women can shoot as well as a healthy man that I am sure you will argue for. I have been trained to shoot to stop. If you die, then so be it. Those shooting at police are trying to kill

If you have a concealed carry permit and are indeed carrying when you get pulled over, the correct protocol (at least what I was taught in class by the LEO instructors) is to keep your hands on the grips, or motionless at your sides if off the bike, and say, "Sir, I have a concealed carry permit and I have a pistol in my tank bag (or wherever). What would you like me to do?" If I were a LEO, I would appreciate that.

Blame this all on the Aprillia coupled with the 6th gen lacking fairings. Everyone knows that bad people ride Ape's as noted in the movie Torque (murder, drugs, other violence, etc). Coupled with permit to carry a concealed weapon, the obvious speeding without regard to anyone's life and attempt to outrun the law, and the 6th gen lacking fairings (a sign of someone whole just stole the bike while the owner had the fairings off and was getting everything cleaned up and ready to go for the spring weather), you guys were obviously off to sling a few kilos of coke and heroin that had just slipped under the radar on a speedboat to the Florida coast. Good thing he didn't search the bikes harder or you all would be locked up in a federal building playing the role of Butch's bitch.

And I could easily live with and appreciate that. No surprises, and more important,up front warnings.

And as far as this particular ride goes, and it seems I got a bit sidetracked here, what happened , sux. Even when you get stopped for speeding that sux. When I got stopped for speeding on the bike it sucked then too. But I was speeding. Now as far as the attitude of the LEO goes, like I suggested in CHAT, maybe he is still green and jumps to excitement before it happens. He may need some experience, or maybe some mentoring in how he deals with the public. When you are in that role, you don't need more enemies. You need to gain a person's respect while maintaining your integrety. Seems this LEO did come down a bit in the end. But that is where he should have started.

But by the read, he did in the end, cut some slack here. Correct me if I am wrong.

Several of us here in the Vancouver area went for a Mt Rainier ride last summer. (I think it was summer but friggen cold enough to be winter). One of us got pulled over by the local State boys. The rest of us were behind and as had been agreed upon, continued up the road for a couple miles and waited. Our man walked. No citation. So yeah. Shit happens. Sometimes good shit too.

Having talked with brother betarace on the phone regarding this ride I have to say:

If you are meeting up with people to do a group ride, DO NOT show up with a bike that is not fully registered to your name, insured, etc. That is total and utter BS and puts the whole riding group at risk.

Well in my defense, I bought my bike from a friend. Took it to the DMV to get it registered, they requested a Bill of Sale. So I didnt get it registered that day. After getting the bill of sale, and being slammed with work I didnt make it back to the DMV this past saturday. I was under the impression ( stated from my friend) it was ok to use his plates until I had it registered. Which yesterday I found out that is not the case. It wouldnt have been so bad until the plates that he had on the bike came back to another name / bike that what was they were registered too. I had a license, insurance on the bike. But didnt have the title switched over and the registration. I understand I was at fault for those things and it ended the rest of my ride for that beautiful day.

Just getting back home from the DMV, the bike is now titled, registered and tagged in my name.

I apologize for the inconvience I caused with my issues, as I think some others should be apologetic as well.

I also appreciate Beta's effort to try and help me out.

All in all I take it as a "Lesson Learned the hard way"

Ah, well, ah...90 in a 45?, passing over double yellow? I do the same shit myself and understand the consequences. Although a total bummer, I would have to say that he did have a point.

Definitely sounds like you guys got caught on a loop the LEOs were watching. One of your group has mentioned a local sportbike group in your area known for acting the fool out on the local roads. LEOs have been known to peruse these forums on the lookout for loops to watch. There are some places around my area you ride at your own risk, since the locals in those areas have complained about getting passed by packs of ten or more guys howling like MotoGp. Another case of a few clowns mucking it up for the rest of us. Sounds like you fellows handled it pretty well, nobody nutted up and made it worse.

Its pretty tough to ride these bikes and not go fast IMHO, or at least fast enough to draw unwelcome attention heehehehe.
