Hello all. This is my first post. I have lurked for far too long.

I ride a 2001 VFR 800 I bought off of ebay last year with 15K miles on it. I use to own a 1998 VFR 800 when it first came out and it was stolen. I was thinking about going with the Stebel and a relay/wiring kit from Eastern Beaver. Spike, just how did you get it to fit and can you please take a few pics so we can see how you did it?

    Thanks

This thread kinda reminded me to fix my horn after I unintentionally nutered the stocker. That FIAM looks like a pretty good way to go - compact but loud. I havent needed the horn in a couple seasons, but it only takes ONE time to need it and be glad you got it.

    Guys,

When I was teaching MSF courses I always told the students the various "defensive" preparation moves you go into if you

see a possible hazard, such as a car pulling out at an intersection. The defensive moves are, as you probably know, cover

the brakes, change lane position, adjust speed, blah blah blah BUT also cover the horn switch. All of these steps are

to give you a little more time to swerve, slow down, speed up, brake, change your under wear, blah blah glah.

Just an hour ago I was backing my car out of a 45 degree parking space at a local food market. I looked in all directions to

make sure it was clear and damn if some woman driver in a SUV didn't come flying into the parking and went around

behind without tooting her horn to warn me. Luckily I was backing out slowly, with my left foot covering the brake pedal

(I'm a left-foot brake driver) and was able to stop in time. I asked her later why she didn't toot her horn and she said,

"oh, I just thought it would be better to zip around you." I told her that I would have appreciated hearing her horn instead.

Sometimes using the horn is good.

I currently have the PIAA installed. It's louder than stock but not what I was expecting. I may get the FIAMM but I am leaning to the Setbel. I just took a look at my bike and I am thinking of making a bracket that fit into the oil cooler bolts. Not sure yet though.

I highly recommend the Stebel, powered by a relay kit from Eastern Beaver Co...

    Thanks Cyborg.

I've heard whispers that the Stebel has a slight delay when the horn button is push. Have you or anyone else experienced that? I'm thinking of constructing some sort of bracket to attach to the oil cooler holes or to the brake line fasteners. I don't ride like a 18 year old might - but I do want the full travel of the front forks. Not sure yet but depending on what you guys say about the Stebel and the delay issue - I may order one today and worry about how to mount it later. And as far as the Eastern Beaver Company relay kit - plug and play? How much more simple can it get?

no fuss - no muss (what's a "muss"?)

I've had my Stebel installed for over a year now. No delay ever.

Ok. I installed the Stebel horn under the left fairing just a bit above the radiator. And I got my relay from Eastern Beaver (excellent to equiptment). This thing is LOUD. Thanks for the recommendations everyone.

Hee hee, it is SO enjoyable to bring cell-using, makeup-applying, coffee-drinking, texting, newspaper-reading, lane-drifting, late-for-an-appointment, fuck-you-motorcycles-are-dangerous-and-yes-I-own-the-road assholes back to realilty as they react like they've just been blasted by a big rig...

I would imagine, considering your recent spate of nutcase posts, you figure everyone on the road worthy of your honkyness.

Im looking for something loud.....stop signs here mean pause and "floor it". Right of way? he whom has bigger vehicle has it. I want them to jump through their sunroof/moonroof when I hit the horn. Its not just for the kicks, I know they cant hear my stock horn over their stereo and cell phone, hell I hear their music when I pass.

Im still looking but the stebel looks good.

Ahhh BB, I see that not only are you still a fucking liar, you've apparently become delusional. I would suggest reading this thread because I truly believe bikes need loud db horns for safety reasons but in your case, keep your stock horn.

The Stebel rocks but you have the ABS model so the horn can't go where foxxbatt and I have ours. I do remember a post where one guy described fitting his Stebel where the stock one was...
