I some times feel like an old fart, and at 44, I ride an old fart's bike.

I think that you'll find that a VFR isn't really a young persons bike as much as it is a young at heart persons bike. Read through this thread and you should find yourself much more comfortable. I am 36 and I get the distinct impression that in terms of averages, I am on the younger side of the members on this site. In fact I don't think you're ever too old for a sporty ride, maybe you should ditch that Harley and get an even sportier bike; like an RSV4, then you could show all the really young lads up.

I can't seem to get a link to work properly. If you go to the advanced search function on the top right portion of your screen and type in "rexbaum" under member i.d. and click search, you'll find several threads, click the title " how many older guys ride a VFR." You should find eight pages of of posts by gentlemn that are 40 years and beyond.

too old is when you cant get it up anymore, this includes the front tire doing 50MPH, certian apendages (without the aid of medical stimui), lifting the f**ker back to its wheels cause that lil 19yo just cut you off on that corner you tried to take too fast. the list goes on and on. if your riding a vfr at 40+ then try not to feel too old, youll just make the rest of us feel old.

I just bought my 2007 VFR this past weekend. I traded in my cruiser to get this. I will be 42 on 3/6. The cruiser was boring me too tears. I don't think age matters unless your so old you can't balance the bike anymore, then you should think about a trike.

    Geez!

45 & concerned about the advancing years? What does that make me? I'm 60 and didn't START riding until '08! Had an SV650 for a year; lots of fun but wanted the red 07 VFR. Got it six months ago and LOVE it. I figured I'd have to buy a bike now 'cause maybe at 70 I'd be too old to take it up.

Lyrics from a song in the play "Pippin":

Here is a secret I never have told,
    Maybe you'll understand why.
I believe if I refuse to grow old
I can stay young 'til I die.

As a friend at work once eloquently put it, aging is like birdsh*t on the windshield: you don't sell the car or abandon the trip. You wipe it off and keep going!

Stay in shape, take ibuprofin, ride on! Here endeth the sermon.

Gimme a break, I wish I was 45 again! Take care of your body, drop a little weight if you need to. You've got a long way to go.

Why did you change your first post? Don't be ashamed about the Harley.!.! We all have lapses in judgement some times.

supertex, not ashamed just think post was communicated wrong on my part, I have been riding bikes for 38 years starting on a honda trail 50, and many other dirt bikes, kaw 350 tripple, gpzs, ninjas, vfs and on plus harleys, point is I love to ride but my being older concern is when I ride my older vfr it does give me some numb hands and some back pains I do not get on a cruiser sitting more upright, and never riding a newer vfr version I am hoping the riding positoin is a little more comfotable then my 86, hope this is a better explaination of what I poorly communicated before, I would not have bought the 07 or have an 86 if I did not like the vfr but overall just like bikes.

You're probably gonna need some risers and a new seat to start with and depending on your height you may also want to consider a taller windscreen. Don't forget that even though it's considered a "sport-touring" bike the emphasis is on sport IMO.
