Ok guys I have searched everywhere and cannot find a VF500 that has been converted to a basic streetfighter w/o all the mods that alter the frame and such. How do you think it would look without the fairing?
So I was wondering if anyone has ever put the Honda 919 headlight assembly or something like it on a VF?
I am thinking about converting mine to something like the bike in this video (I know its a 919 and those were built mostly like this I just like the styling of it. The best pic of the bike is at 1:51 or thats what I am going after) :
    YouTube - Honda 919 Streetfighter
All opinions welcome.. good and bad let me hear em!! I am straddling the fence right now and its costing me precious time that I could be riding instead.

You see, the look of a street fighter on the 919 is fine.

But to take a classic Interceptor and street fighter it, is just cruel.

Theres tons of other Salvaged bikes out there that are deemed worthy of a fighter look. But not the VF500.

Yes it would be unique, but the fact that the 1st gen VF's are few, it wouldn't be wise to hack up a nice looking classic.

    That's my 2 cents

    Cheers : )

Thanks for the reply guys!! I think I have decided to just add some custom things to it, but nothing that will alter the bike permanentyl. Just bolt on things. That way if I want to go back to all stock in the future I can easily convert.
I am looking now for maybe a trashed 81 CB900f or so to possibly convert as a project.

Thanks for the opinions!! Hope to see you on the road!!

I'm a huge fan of streetfighters. I'm not all that clear on how the 500 was put together, not having dug into one. Is the tail of the frame an intergated part of the frame or an extention? The ability to go back is cool but nothing says COMMITMENT like chopping a frame. I chopped up and re-made Kristins frame extention on her VFR gen3 and addapted a 2000 R6 race tail on it. It could in theory go back, but not something I planned for. The frame mods on my 81 CB750 were a bit more extensive and I'm not near finished with it. Keep in mind this is VFRWORLD.com, NOT Hey-Let's-chop-the-crap-outta-this-bike-n-see-what-we-can-weld-on.com. There is a group of the loyal angels on your shoulder that will allways coincider this act blasphamy:angel: . Becarefull if you ask me, I'm one of the guys with horns saying "chop that part off, what's it good for anyway? Dude, we need more beer to figure this out"

Nice bike!! and clean work!!! I was kind of just looking at putting maybe a front end off of a honda 919 on it to give it that look. I would have to hide wires, make new covering for tach/speedo and get the headlight and make mounts and all.
here is a VERY rough picture of my bike and what I was kind of looking at doing, I was just messing around in paint so its not that great but you get the idea...

finally got the pic to work...haha

I say, never ask what do you guys think about something I want to do to my bike to make it really cool to me. It's your bike, do as you wish. Save the questions for the technical stuff. That bike will look so cool, to you(and me too), so jump in.

thats a real hard question to get possitive answers to on this site. the best thing you can do is offer all the parts you dont need in your build back up for sale to all those on here that wish to put them to good use, thats what I did when I built my vf500 streetfighter. I think it turned out pretty cool (not quite done just road ready) but thats just my oppinion, i'm sure there are plenty of hard core vf500 lovers on here that would want to kick my ass for chopping up an old vf but as an avid street rod chopper upper I kind of get my kicks out of watching people cringe while I cut up a classic!

Yeah if you dont mind I would love to see some pictures!! I would like to see one that has been turned into a street fighter, vf500's are somewhat rare to see around especially one that is a fighter.

I am keeping my eye open for some spare 919 parts for a good price!! Savin up my money so once I dig in and start it I wont have to stop halfway and not have a bike to ride!

    Thanks guys!!

I was wondering the same thing, it seems like the suspension would not be as good though, or that is what I would worry about.

No Magna front end swap is needed. You have already on your bike a factory Showa set-up, a.k.a. a very capable almost race ready front suspension set-up. Anyway, StreetFighters began in Germany when guys wanted to customize their bikes and race across towns, usually after they laid their bikes down and didnt have the funds to fix it, so they customized them, or "ratted" them to look cool, but also made engine tweaks to run with the cafe racers of the day. I have a huge respect for history, and I realize that while, yes, we may be tearing apart the history of the Honda VF/VFR legacy in factory terms, we are adopting the ways and following those originals who just loved to work on their bikes, make them look cool, and go faster than they prolly should be. And in the end, that's what we all are after right? A bike that looks cool and goes fast?

I'm doing this to my 86 VFR700, because I laid the bike down and my front uppers/lowers were cracked and destroyed. I'm in the process of modding my front gauge cluster to be fork-mounted, instead of stay-mounted. After this, I'm wiring up the Dual 4" headlight system from Aztek or Dominator. Yeah, it will look badass. Already have the rear fender reflector shaved, relocated plate under tail w/ integrated signals, bike is primer gray for now, but am up in the air about color: matte black, gloss non-metallic black, or the Acura NSX Deep Red, are all in the running for final color. And I got the exhaust heat-wrapped in case you dont realize its a rat bike from the rest of it : ) Tail swap is in the future plans.

86INTERCEPTOR, have you gotten anywhere with your mods since February?

alright guys! i'm working on doing this too... the front fairing/gauge cluster stay mounting just seems so clunky to me, and i want a cleaner/simpler look. gonna try to simply take off all the unnecessary plastics and mount the gauges and headlight directly to the forks... let me know if you guys find an easy mod for the gauges... i can't tell yet if they'll look all right stripped down but without the fairing...

I did come across a Guage Mounting Plate that will come in handy for mounting guages once I tear apart the front stay. The bracket mounts directly up to the Fork Brackets that are available from Aztec8 as well. Heres a link: Products. For my 86 R700, Ill get the 37mm fork mounts, the universal mounting plate, and it will clean up the front end tremendously...
