I work at a machine/fab shop and I plan to make two aftermarket parts for my 05 VFR. The first are some REAL frame sliders with design like a revolver on the end of them. They may be solid billet (mill finish) or part black and an outer ring of billet (mill finish). The other is a custom back rest for the passenger that will replace and mount to the old back handles, you know something the wife would love you for. It will incorporate as much of the bike design to blend quite nice. I am letting this out because it would be cost effective to make like 20-30 sets as opposed to just one. I'm making them for my bike reguardless I just though I would see if anyone else would like to have them too. Email for info @ ben.jamin311@yahoo.com

A backrest sounds like something that might be very popular! Good luck! Make sure you post some pictures when you git-r-done! Oh yeah, and welcome to the site

I would be interested in rear sets, although those can be sourced elsewhere commercially for probly cheaper and easier since you would need to probly prototype a couple of examples to get it right, plus you have the bearings and such. But hey, what do I know.

What I and a couple other people here have sometimes asked for, was a way to mount aux lights on the VFR. I have seen plenty out in the market for other bikes, but for some reason not the VFR. Either a bar with mounting tabs on the end that attaches under the nose of the bike, or something that would mount between the mirrors and the fairing.
I have the ideas, but not the requisite skill and machinery.

Yeah I see some people with mirror risers... what about a riser that includes a place to install an aux light with a hollow spot to run wiring??

The riser idea I like, although it actually wasn't what I meant. That would be an improvement, or option to what I had in mind. What I had thought was something that I saw a couple years ago for the ST, where it was two plates connected by a tube/pipe. One plate had two holes in it, and you placed that between the mirror mount and the fairing/fairning stay. The tube/pipe was then welded onto the end of it, so you could run the wires thru it. At the other end, and it was just a few inches long, was welded another plate, which when mounted would be below the mirror stalk and a couple of inches out from the body. It would also be roughly parellel to the ground (given different bike's shocks, forks, tires it would be impossible to make it always level for everyone), or there could be a joint of some sort there for adjustments, but I don't think that would be necessary since I beleive most lights offer some adjustability. That plate would have a hole in it to mought your light to, or maybe it would be "u-drill" for different size light mounting bolts.
Does all that make sense? Hard to describe without using my hands or a drawing, but I have it perfect in my mind. And the website I saw them on for the ST, no longer offers them.

I will try to get to looking into this. It seems like something pretty simple. Well when you have the machinery and CAD programs it is. Im working on the others first but the bike is about to be tore down and I will add this to the list of customs I plan to make.

Being that I run and operate a shop that produces custom mods for newer cars like the camero and the charger R&D is just part of the game. I posted this to see if anyone might be inerested so this is not just a private practice of mine.
However I do think the rearsets would be more of a challenge but that is what makes me get up every morning, the challenge. I have taken a look at som of the rearsets on other bikes and haver a few ideas already. I will keep you all posted.

I would love some frame sliders, but just plain ones for me, thanks. Even though the fairings have a few scraches, i'm loath to drill into them.

I also like the aux light bar idea, too many deer around here at night for me not to punch a large hole in the darkness.

Also, maybe a gun mount? Drivers in Raleigh hardly give me a second look, maybe with some firepower on board they would stop shaving/dressing/applying makeup/reading/texting (even though its illegal now)/eating/making babes (seriously saw this one once on the highway)

I have an 04 with hard bags. I don't really carry passengers and thought it would be nice to remove the passenger pegs. However, the bag mount attaches to the passenger pegs. It would be interesting to have something that replaces the attachment without the actual passenger pegs...
