Alright i will be buying a vfr within the next few months. It will be my first street bike besides my 84 shovel head. Anyways my question is im sorta sold on the 90-97 models. I like the idea of gear driven cams, smooth power. but i def. like the plastics of the 6gen(they look more contemporary and sporty) not a fan of the idea of funky power curves alla vtech, but i have read threads about tuning some of that hit out with tuners. anways gen 6's are alot easer to come bye and clean older ones are more and more rare as the days go by it seems. So the im realy torn. Im sure i wil lbe happy with either. So i guess im just looking to split hairs.
With that said, i am 6'6" and was curious if any of the generations are better suited for taller riders. I will be more of a touring rider than a sport rider, having kids will do that to ya ;)
So what do you guys think?
    thanks

Welcome to the forum. Unfortunately, a man of your stature will probably require Heli bars and maybe even lowering pegs to make either a 5th or 6th gen comfortable. Not to mention a taller wind screen.
    Good luck

Agreed, 5th or 6th Generations would be your best bet. My wife had a 91 3rd Generation and it felt tiny compared to my 5th Generation 01. I am only 5'11" and have both the helibars and lowering pegs. I highly recommend both. Although the 4th Generations are also nice their parts/fairings seem to be through the roof since they are becoming more scarce. I actually like the stock screen since the air hits me in the chest. I also have a sport touring screen that is nice but I have more head buffetting with it.

The tallest VFR riders I have seen have been on 5th and 6th gen bikes, but really, the 5th and 6th gen ergos are pretty damned close. I know that Brooks (5th gen) is like 6'5-6'7 or so, SLOav8r (who has sold his 5th gen VFR) is 6'4" or so. He said the CBR1100XX was more comfortable for trips and that the BMW of his roommate was much more comfortable. I think his roomie is like 6'7 or 6'8 and his name is Rich and he used to ride a 5th gen VFR. I am not sure, but he looks like Shrek on any bike. These guys make me feel short. Wayne or SilverSurfer rides a 6th gen and he is pretty tall I think like 6'5ish... He seemed to think it was pretty comfortable. I think you can add Buell footpegs which drop them 1/2" or so and then helibars which raise the bars up and back a bit. You know, that new VFR1200 might be a good bike for you. From what I can tell, though the only real bikes made for large men are the BMWs or at least that's my personal feeling unless you want a goldwing.

im six foot eight with a 36 inch inseam and have been riding a sixth gen for about 2 1/2 years now. i didnt go for the helibars or peg lowering and have still managed to get a couple 500 mile days ( this will hurt though). if your commuting and taking weekend jaunts you love this bike as is. the only problem is tall people are much heavier than the 140 japanese riders this bike is set up for so be prepaired for the bike to squat untill you get the suspension worked out.

gee billy, I thought you already had a VFR ? Are you in the market for a new one? maybe you should get a Can Am. That way you won't have to have blocks added to the levers.or even worse, have training wheels put on a perfectly good bike.

    Cruddy,

Yep got a 91. Best overall bike I have ever owned. I'd like to take a spin on a Can-Am. As you may have read but likely forgot due to your latest med OD, Dave Hough (please look up Dave) had a new one I saw in July at a Sportbike thing I am involved in. There were about 500 bikes there and I think the only guy who got to ride the beastie was Reg Pridmore. BTW, Reg if you don't know who he is either, was among other things, the Santa Barbara BMW dealer for + - 25 years. His personal bike for all round riding is a VFR. Down the road I will probably get a putt or two on the thing. I do some photo work for Dave and we are also members of the same MC Club.

Rode one of those Wing trikes and years ago, a short putt on a VW Powered kluge that was a once around the block thing. Kind of like riding a chopper with no front brake and a rake or break front end and weight distribution like hauling around a porker of any gender on the back seat. A great example of trailer park engineering that one.

I have other bikes and custody of another and will keep the 91. I take care of my equipnment and this puppy is still in great shape for being 20 years old. There is a pic of the 91 shot summer before last about a month after I did a paint job on it.

On the ergo thing and height. Nope, I am not six-six or six-eight. These are some big guys. Moi? 6'1" and 195 to 205 lbs. My goal in life was to become a WWF Midget Rassler but fate upset my plans. I got over it though.

If there is anything else I can help you with short of scoring and animal cruelty let me know.

    Otherwise how ya been lately?
