    you guys...

    ahh, winter...

    on topic, though. does it really matter if you have those nipples covered? I think I have the caps, but I have seen lots of bikes without them. Is it a big deal other than dirt getting in there? Shouldn't bleeding them push everything out instead of in anyway?

    Biggest problem with running no caps/covers is that crap will get in there (mainly water) and cause corrosion, clogging up the bleed hole, and possibly rust welding itself into the caliper permanently.

    any corrosion in there will make it more difficult to bleed your brakes in the future. Anything that did get in there would just sit too, since most point up, any dbris would not be inclined to fall out. Water could sit there and do its stuff for weeks or even months.
