So I managed to dump my Anniversary Edition a few weeks ago. I was going about 5-10 mph, so I scraped up the right side pretty good. Based on the paint quote I got, I think I am just going to replace the lower fairing. The upper fairing is only damaged on the white part and the red stripe.

    I found the decals here.

Is the number 8 decal only the red stripe, or does it include the little bit of white above and below also? Otherwise, I guess I will have to buy both blue and white touch-up paint instead of just blue. Is Color Rite the best place to go for factory matched paint?

It is a shame how much this costs to repair, considering it is only paint and stickers. Oh well, expensive lesson.

    Thanks for your help!

I replaced that exact same decal on mine. It includes the white bits as well.

That is true, the entire front cowl is painted blue only. That corner decal has the red and the white. You can feel the white part if your your nail at the top as well as see the white portion of the sticker if you remove your lower screw.

Oh and I bought some Colo Rite paint, it was expensive and didn't match as well I as wished it to, still the best paint though. Great if your painting an entire area or really small touch ups but not for an big already painted portion. The white especially is hard because the you have the special primer in one can, the base white in another can and the actual pearl in another can. A lot of processing involved to get a good match, especially at home.

FWIW I found a piece of mirror off of a car that matched the blue on our bikes nicely. I traced the part to a 09 honda civic, haven't yet found a can of touch for it but am sure it will match nicely.

EDIT: A set of Factory Hard Bags work as much better sliders than the actual sliders you have. :mmph:

Thanks. I'm hoping I don't have to use those sliders. I installed them after the "incident." They were about 1/10th the price of the hardbags.

I have heard several people say that the hardbags make better sliders. If you drop the bike, or slide it down the road a ways like I did, won't you have to replace the hardbag on that side (~$500) ? The entire lower fairing is only a little over $400. I'm not sure what the logic is there.

That being said, I would LOVE to have a set. Right now I am using a Cargo Monster Tailbag which makes it a little difficult to get on and off the bike. Eventually I will have a set. Eventually.

My hardbags knock on wood have taken a lot abuse and are still working great. They have a couple scratches but that's ok, on long trips they get dirty and you can never tell what's a scratch or what isn't.

Regarding the hard bags...I found the same thing. Mine fell...or more correctly, I accidently applied too much force installing the left bag after already installing the right. So mine fell over at 0 MPH and landed directly on the right bag and right upper cowl/ mirror. Those are definitely the first point of contact. BTW I love the OE hard bags, turns a commuter into a decent sport tourer.

It's hard to cough up hundreds for a couple little scratches. If you know a good 'body person' ... fortunately I do, they can really work magic. Whether to replace with new, fix, or live with it is a personal choice, based on 'how bad' , and what slight imperfections you can live with.
