anyone know anything about Chatanooga? Slim chance at a relocation.. Just trying to get a 'vibe " of the place thanks... CrustyRider
I was there back in 1997 or so. I can remember some good BBQ place we ate, and going up to the top of lookout mtn. During the spring/summer/fall, there is quite a bit of things you could do....mtn biking, hiking, rafting, and I think they even have some smaller rocks to climb. Pretty scenery....I could not tell you about the people or what there is to do in town though....didn't look like that much to do "in town" but then again, that was 13 years ago.
I've never lived there but I've been there a few times. It seems like a college town (University of Tennessee Chattanooga). Compared to California it's a really laid back atmosphere. There's a little aquarium downtown and all kinds of little shops and resturant. Your right between Nashville and Atlanta...it's about an hour and a half drive to either one. And the roads are GREAT for riding!!! One of our members spark750 (he's organizing VFR gathering 2010) I believe he lives in Chattanooga. He could give you better info
first of all, the correct spelling is c-h-a-t-t-a-n-o-o-g-a sorry, had to get that in there. i've been down here for 5 years and love it (i moved down from northern michigan). it's really not a college town per se as ut-chattanooga has a large commuter student body versus say, univ of michigan, ut-knoxville, univ of florida, bc etc... however, the downtown area has been significantly revitalized and is a fun and inexpensive place to live/play. chattanooga is about 1.5 hours from atlanta, ga. and 2 hours from nashville, tn or birmingham, al. if you enjoy mountain biking, competitive road bike riding, mountain climbing, or hanggliding, this place has it all. rush-hour traffic is a joke (esp for a cali guy), just got a volkswagen manufacturing plant (next passat i think), close to road atlanta, roebling road, barber motorsports (alabama), nashville superspeedway for yer mc track excursions. most importantly, the dragon and similar roads are just a few hours away. housing is cheap and the propery taxes are low (no state tax either:wink there are drawbacks however....wages tend to be lower than average, not as many cool eateries, local folks tend to have conservative position (changing slowly however), religion is big, and rednecks are everywhere (mostly keep to themselves though). overall, i really enjoy it down here. don't have to go far to get away and the city seems to be moving in the right direction. pm me for more details. cheers!:bounce:
Cool thanks Sparky......THe GF is a prospective for employment at the UT- Chattanooga.. she was pleasantly surprised at the housing prices and as long as a "good Thai restaraunt can be found even if it is a little bit of a drive thats cool... I'll think of more questions and shoot you a PM...
grew up in saugatuck, school in detroit, moved to chatt, tn from frankfort (near traverse city). familiar with da 'mitt' are ya?
You could say I might know my way around.... I was born in Cheboygan (near Mackinaw City), and grew up there and some in Troy/Royal Oak/Berkley/Novi. TC and the upper westside (north of it) is by far the prettiest in the lower.....upper has it beat for beauty of course.
Advice.....You hear banjos, and a guy wanting you to make pig noises...RUN!!!!! Unless you want to add on to the "gay marriage" thread. (this is only a joke....No Tennesseans were hurt during the makeing of this joke)
Actually "The Cracker Barrel" got it's start in Lebanon TN about 20 minutes from my house. I know because for some reason they're pretty damn proud of that.
