    Hi

My 06 has a little vibration going through it from around 4k to 5k rpm. Feel it through the bars and the pegs. Seems to have been coming over the past 6 months and although not bad is noticable after it being silky smooth for so long.

Would appreciate any comments or ideas on what the cause may be. Bike is in good nick, tyres look fine. Sprockets and chain replaced last month. Steering is fine but could the the tyres be unbalanced?

    Thanks

ok please add alittle more detail. at speed 4k-5k pull in clutch does it still vibrate?
if it does I would check the chain for a tight spot / kink and tire balance.

02 VFR Rider - Sorry a bit slow in response. At 4-5k with clutch in still has the vibe but coasts sweetly with no revs so won't be the wheels. It has new spockets and chain and vibe was around before that so I think that can be ruled out. The only thing I have noticed is that for the first few minutes of a ride the vibe is hardly noticable but comes in quickly after that.

Note that it is not a great inconvenience except commuting in 3rd at 4.5k rpm becomes is a little irksome.

I'll have a talk to the shop next time it goes in.

    Thanks

Could be a belt in a tire is bad. But just for fun, put your tires at 5 psi low and see how it feels.

I'm by no means a mechanic but that sound like a tire issue to me. My rational being that the vibration get worse as the tires warm up and the air inside expands. Bad belt or maybe they are just out of balance. Can you tell if you're missing any of the weights they used to balance the tires. Good luck!

I had the same problem on my 07, and it turned out to be the chain. Seems that they are pretty particular about too tight of a chain. Check your chain tension by putting the bike in 1st, then rolling the back tire backwards. If you just wiggle the chain up and down without doing that procedure, you aren't really checking the chain tension, as there may be slop in the top as well. Also, with the rear wheel off the ground roll the wheel in neutral to find the tight spots. Just because you have new chain and sprockets doesn't mean that they are properly tensioned. Also, the reason it comes on after a few minutes of riding could be because the chain is heating up. The problem with my bike turned out to be a chain with some tight links. The chain lube that I was using gummed up the oring chain. I cleaned it up with some gear oil, and no more vibe.
