I have an '02 vfr lined up. Gonna go next week to look at it. I can't wait to be a real viffer owning member of the forums!

So here's the bike I'm 99.9% sure I'm going to get, well of the damage on it. it's an 02, 20k"ish" miles for $3500. All recall work done and aside form this damage the bike is good to go. Scratches on the fairings on the right side and the dent in the tank from a lowside. Seme like a decent deal? Thanks for any input! My question is do you really have your heart set on a 6th gen. Because those fairing and tank look pretty beat up to me...and you can get a really clean 5th gen same miles for about the same price. I absolutely love my 6th gen (I have no problem with VTEC) but IMO 1998 and 1999 are the best years for VFR's (No catalytic converters, gear driven cams, and a slightly bigger down pipe...I think it's 45 mm instead of 43mm). 2000 and 2001 are good years also but that's when they started adding catalytic converters and the slightly smaller down pipe. And you would be spending about the same amount of money. just my two cents...Good Luck!!:cheersaf:
I would't lose any sleep if I had a 5th Gen, but I really do like the 6th gen bikes. All things being equal and I had to choose between a 5th and 6th I'd choose the 6th. The styling just appeals to me so much more, I actiually kind of like the vtec too.
I know that's ultimately what it boils down to, but I'm never offended by others input, especially when it comes from a community of experience such as this website.
+ 1 for a 5th gen As far as the bike you're looking at - you could get a nice 98 or 99 for that or less. Got my 99 (with 19k miles on it) for $3000. Unless you really want the 6th gen. Biggest thing is to get what you really want. Don't compromise if you're only half into it. My two cents. Edit: the 6th gens are still SWEET bikes. Really you can't lose between the two.
Have you tried to negotiate the price down yet? If you love the way the 6th gen looks then you want one thats not too beat up I am assuming. Try and get money down closer to 3k so you can repair the bike proper.
I'd go for a cleaner 5th gen for that price. I too wasn't very thrilled about the looks of the 5g when compared to the 6g, but since i've bought it, that feeling has totally disappeared. The look grew on me quite quickly. Plus, all it took was listening to the start up of the 5g. It had an aftermarket can on it, so that plus the gear whine, it was absolutely intoxicating. Trust me, if you havn't heard it, the gear whine rocks (but it isn't for some). But...I am biased since i went with the 5g. I'd probably be talking up the 6g just as much if I had bought one instead.
