I found a used 6th gen in Arizona with 3000 miles. From what I understand, California considers anything less than 7000 miles new and won't register the bike without an inspection for CA emissions. What are they looking for exactly, a sticker or stamp? (And can I verify this myself?)

How many 49-state bikes does Honda ship? Zero would be a really nice answer.

And finally, will an after market exhaust be a problem?

    Hopefully I'm over-thinking this.

    Thanks.

I don't think the 6th gen has a cali model only bike to to the fact that is was made to meet emission regulations ( like the addition of the converter, pair valve and evap canister )
If I am wrong on this I think someone will chime in but my understanding is 6th gens are 50 state legal.
I am not from cali, so I don't know about the 7,000 miles but as long as emmision stuff is still on the bike you should be fine.

The 7,000 mile rule is enforced, be fully prepared to pay CA sales tax, if you do not pay documented sales tax on the purchase in AZ, as that will be required. You cannot register an out of state vehicle online. You will be required to have a full inspection by the CA DMV, the main thing they look for is the emissions sticker on the airbox lid and they will verify the mileage. Be fully prepared to lift the tank if you take it to them, they will not take your word for it, believe me, I know.

I will second what NorcalBoy said. I thought a vehicle registration swap would happen,, when I registered my truck ..(from AZ) they went thru it like a colonoscapy. and registering the VFR they did the same thing...they treated it as if it was from out of state and inspected EVERYTHING on it..a "safety inspection" is what she called it..

easiest thing to do is register it and title it in az then when the title comes in your name.. transfer "your" motorcycle over.. to cali...you will still go through the inspection.. but you wouldn't have to pay sales tax

The State of Arizona will not allow you to register the vehicle if you are not a documented resident of the state.

You will have to pay the sales tax in AZ. Trust me you are not going to get out of paying for the privelige of bringing it to the Republic of Caleeforneea. State governments have closed all of the potential loopholes that denies them the opportunity to pick your pockets. It's all about the dead presidents, baby.

I know the gig, I have gone back and forth between AZ and CA four times.

thats funny cause I did it while I lived here.. not gonna argue it though...it can be done.you buy the bike in az pay the "sales tax" on what ever the price you "agree" to pay is. transfer the reg and title to an A address an AZ title then in 4-6 weeks your title come in you transfer it to california... The trick is to have an Az address you can use....if not pay the taxes and bitch about like the rest of us... Good luck

VFRcapn is correct on the 7500 miles required. The old days of connecting an electric drill to the speedometer cable and spinning it up cannot

be done with modern electronic speedometers, as far as I know. The 7500 mile BS is a left over from the days when Kalifornia collected $300

extra for cars coming into the state. For motorcycles it truly is ridiculous, but what can I say...it use to be a pretty good state.

At least we have some of the greatest roads to ride on ~
