if you take the windshield and wheels off, you should be able to get it in there but it will still be a tight fit.

Does anyone have measurements to the top of the windshield, or better yet to the highest point with the windshield taken off? Thanks.

I don't have a hitch on my van. I'm trying to find my least obtrusive method. I don't like going to my friends and family to say "can I borrow your truck for a day and put 1000 miles on it?" Even if I'm offering to pay, 1000 miles is 1000 miles.

you could always rent a pickup or 10' truck from U-Haul. Half day's rental isn't that much. Like PorscheBob says, better safe....

Come on Dan, I"m from MN. Offer some Michelob Golden Draft Light and folks in MN or WI will follow you off a cliff. You could also offer walleye or to rent an ice fishing shack on Mille Lacs for a weekend.

This may be a really lame response, but I live in cali and weather isnt something that I have to worry about - I dont know where you live.
Can you have someone drive you there in the minivan and you can ride the bike back? 1000 miles is a bit to tackle in 1 day, but you could make a weekend out of it?

P.S. the pic of the bike on top of the car just made it to my desktop wallpaper.

You can also go to enterprise and rent a full size van. No mileage costs like U-Haul.

I measure 42.5" to the highest point with the windshield taken off.

You might make minor gains by lowering tire pressure, compressing suspension or removing the front fairing. But very, very small.

Hope my tinkering helps with your question.

    Good luck with your trip.

We don't need no steeeeenkin truck!!!!!

This sportbike seems to fit nicely into a little Civic with just the windscreen removed, should be able to stuff a VFR into a Montana no problem!!

    [IMG]

Seriously though, I rented a "moving" box truck, with a pull out ramp on the back, when I had to take my Nighthawk to get the carbs rebuilt. Screwed down a couple of tiedown rings to the deck and strapped her down front wheel against the front wall o da box, worked great!! Kind of a pain in the ass getting in and out though, probably still gonna need a friend to help get her back out at least. Good luck!!
