I'm interested in upgrading the stock exhaust on my 2002 VFR 800? I'd like to increase the HP and a little "sound" would be OK as well. I like the stainless look of the stock pipes? Any tried and true suggestions?

Two Bros for incrementally better performance over the other brands. I wish Longs' pricing was right with Two Bros, but for the M2 system in titanium or carbon, you're looking at closer to $1000. All aftermarkets are going to basically give the same benefits. I favor the 2 bros becuse it's the lightest and it also gives a few lbs. more torque than the others. That's all due to a design that is either brilliant or not so much, depending on who you talk to. Results are undisputed. It has to do with one can not being used, this ironically, is what makes it lighter (as well as shorter cans) and slightly better performance wise. It's also one of only a couple of short can designs, which in my opinion are the most aesthetically pleasing.

Someone should be by shortly to bad mouth said design.

Not the best pic but you can basically see what they look like.

I think the Staintunes are the best looking stainless cans. I have Leo Vince carbons myself, but I vote for the STs for coolest stainless!

+1 on the Two Brothers. Plus the unused "decoy" can has a threaded end so you get a secret bit of storage. (seriously! so cool) If your budget doesn't look like that's going to work, I'd go with the gutting your stock exhaust option. Haven't heard one in person, but check this out

Also I think there's a thread or two around here that tells you how to do it. Overall it might be more fun to do that. All up to you:biggrin1:

EDIT: found it http://vfrworld.com/forums/mechanics-garage/16824-gutting-stock-mufflers.html

I've heard a handful of pipes, and the Microns had the best sound IMO. My next choice would be the 2 Bros, if the "dummy can" doesn't bother you.

I have a set of Micron slip ons and mid pipe for the VTEC for sale in the classifieds. Have a look -- if you're interested, I'll check what shipping would be to Canada. We could work something out, I'd like to get rid of them.

Please show us your side by side dyno runs with all the different cans and midpipes, everyone here has been looking for that for a couple years now.

I know...I know...Hate to call myself a moron, but I have only just figured out how to get pics and such posted. The computer is not something I spend much time learning about. I obviously don't have side by side graphs, just my graphs compared to others I've seen. I'll go get them out of the garage and see if I can't get them up today or tonight.

I nearly did just that, then had a laugh and figured you were dickin' around. I am going to post the dyno anyway. I have been a big proponent/defender of the 2 Bros/VFR set-up on this site for as long as I've been a member...so I think I should show why. Not gonna get done tonight however, it's -4 degrees in my garage right now and I'm not up for digging it out. When I get back from your corner of the world next week, I'll post it up under it's own thread title. " Two Bros Dyno results"

For what it's worth I've been lurking around a few sites trying to see what the costs would be for the stanTunes. Here's a response I got from a U.S dealer on Jan 10 2009.
...We did sell StainTune Pipes for quite some time, but with the economy as it is, they have stopped dealer pricing for all US dealers until they can afford to do so again. For now, we would be purchasing for the same price you would be directly from them(full retail) as are the rest of the U.S dealers. Your best bet is to goto them directly, give them your business.... I apologize that we cannot help you.

So for those of you that do have the StanTune, how much did you folks pay?

I just picked up the 02-08 Honda VFR800 Two Brothers M2 CF dual s/o Exhaust from StarCycle USA. They were the cheapest I could find online - $697. After exchange, shipping and taxes it was around $900 Cdn. The aluminium cans go for $150 less than the Carbon Fiber ones.

I think 2 bros are cheesy, from what I read when I was looking at exhausts, with 2 bros only one of the exhaust cans works, the other is just for looks. Multipul places I looked said the same thing. I can't imagine sittin at a light with smoke/fumes coming out of one can, reminds me of a V6 mustang with duel exhaust. To me its like you're paying for something you don't need, now if they just did a single center can setup or have it so it looks nice like on the new CBRs, short little exhaust sticking out from the cat that would be ok too but paying for an extra can that doesn't even function.. no thanks

The staintunes also offer two other benefits. One is that they never need to be repacked, with the 2 Bros. and presumably some of the others, you have to do that every so many miles. Is it impossibly difficult? No, but it is just another project to be done, parts to buy (cheap), etc. Also the Staintunes have an insert that you can leave in for quiet noise, and remove if you want a little louder sound. So depending on where you are, you can have the right sound for your taste. As for the horsepower, I certainly don't know, I would guess the difference in the aftermarket pipes is fairly small amongst themselves, and only noticeable flat out. IMHO the bigger reason to go aftermarket is indeed sound, weight and looks.
