    Hi All,

Joined the site almost three years ago when I first got my new 2007 V-TEC and promptly stacked it when someone cut across me at a junction.
Now the claims all settled and I've got the bike I'm wondering what to do with it. I REALLY want to rebuild it, but not sure of:
    - How much its gonna cost (is it even worth it!?)
    - Where to get all the parts from other than Honda themselves who are asking a fortune.

I could really do with some advice.

It was pretty much perfectly head-on at about 30mph. As you can see the forks are junk, having creased just below the bottom yoke with the wheel taking out the front two down-pipes and cracking the rockerbox cover.

Since these pics were takenright after the accident I've stripped off all the battered plastics to get a better look underneath, mainly to see if the headstock is cracked but it looks ok.

The front subframe is obviously buggered, and the loom which runs across the front of the headstock has been lacerated.

Other parts which are immediately obviously wrecked are:
    -Oil cooler
    -Both rads
-All the front end plastics and lights
    -Front wheel...

...and the tank! Trust me, that hurt :crutch:

If anyone has any of these parts, knows where I can get 'em or any guesstimates on how much it would cost to get it back on the road I'd love to know.

    Thanks,

    Simon

best bet is search e bay. alot of the parts you have listed have been for sale on site.
you will have to take some time to get the right deal but it will be worth it.
I also will be going thru some of my spares and listing some parts for sale in the next month or two

Ebay will be your friend here as well as craigslist. One place to start is to check over at VFRD. The guy has posted there, here, and CL... Last I knew he still had the full set of fairings for the bike. They had somewhere around 25 miles on them and were taken off his bike without a scratch on them. Even had the tank too.

Another option is that you might be better off finding another VFR that has been wrecked in a different manner and using the two to make one.

I agree with comicus, just by a new one. My ride was subjected to a fierce hail storm in July, total damage was $4,000. It didn't experience anything close to the type of damage you've got. Replaced the windscreen, mirrors, gas tank, instrument panel, rear cowl, seat cowl, a couple plastic covers around the windscreen, some hardware, and labor (which wasn't much). Aside from that, glad to see you're OK.

That was one helluva crash. Sorry bout yer nuts(EEEEOUCH).

That thing looks totaled. I would look at a left over new one as mentioned above.

Good luck with what ever you choose.

Have the frame checked, and if it checks ok, part the rest. For what it's worth and the condition it's currently in, it just isn't worth the time.

Looks like a good candidate for a race bike. Buy a left over 07 and now you have either a parts bike or race bike on the side. Plus you can always part it out or sell it cheap as is. You did get a good buck from the insurance, yes?

go for the leftover new bikes, or there are even some on ebay that are fairly new. You may find another red one as well with a few miles on it.

    Thanks for the tips fellas.

The used market is pretty steep here at the moment, and new ones are still up around £8200!! Might hang on a while.

The insurance paid out £22,000 (after almost three years of bullshit from my solicitor) because I had a shattered right arm with a metal plate right before my college finals! As well as loss of earnings etc etc.

I see what you're all saying; the parts are gonna come up to a similar price of a decent used bike minus the ball ache of rebuilding etc.

    Anyone want a 500-mile motor!?!?!

Seriously this thing was only just run in :frown:

    Thanks,

    Simon

I think your ball ache started when you crushed that tank. On the bright side, you've probably saved yourself a lot of money in birth control.

    Some things to think about:
    - First check the frame, then work out where to go from there.
    - Whatever you do, it won't be worth it financially unless you want to keep her all your life. Any future buyer that sees it was a w/off will only pay silly money.
    - Honda OEM parts are outrageously overpriced - an oil cooler alone is around 300 quid. The VFR decals are almost 100. Ebay and breakers are the only way this could work.
    - Only go the ebay route if you are reasonably proficient in mechanical stuff (at least terminology). For example it never occured to me that the cowl stay on the ABS could be different to the non ABS. That lack of knowledge cost me.
    - Only go the ebay route if you have lots of time to spare. The moment you 'urgently' need some obscure part, you risk jeopardizing the viability of the whole project (because you are forced to buy expensive OEM).
    - There are a number of threads about firms in Hong Kong etc that do plastics (generally poorly) - I'd suggest going second hand (a place called alkamoto Alkamoto motorcycle fairing panels).
    - What about keeping her as a parts bin for a second hand VFR you buy? You can then buy (say) an 02-on model without worrying about nasty/costly surprises.
    - What about doing her up the minimum needed to get her running then use as a track machine?
    - What about stripping her down and selling the parts on ebay? You could get 500 quid just for the HISS system. Probably 300++ for a new engine?
    - Check out the MOT rules for insurance write offs - you might need a new test before you can use her on the road.
