Hello again, I recently found someone in my area with an 85 1000r (the first one with cam drive) and was wondering if I could bolt that right into my 83 vfr750 frame? Anyone tried this before?

Do a Google search for "The Gimp", Tim Cameron. He used an '84 non-US motor that was dimensionally slightly narrower than the '85. It isn't easy and it isn't a bolt up, he had to mod the frame. I don't think you gain much in HP but probably gain some significant weight.

It will fit, but it takes some work. Don't expect to be able to get the rear cam cover off once it's in though. There is a guy in Europe (I think) who did this a couple of years back. I had some links to it but they appear broken now.

Doesn't the 1000 motors, depending if F or R have like 113/116 hp respectively? Plus lots more torque compared to 86hp for the 83-85 750's. As far as the rear cam cover I thought about using a V65 Saber split rear cover. Where the top of the cover about where it curves down is one piece and the other piece is basically the sides. I'm thinking this would work for the F motor. Not sure about the cam drive R motor though. It's tuff finding an F motor complete with carbs/exhaust where I live. I've been looking to do the same.

The R heads are larger than the F's. The R motor will go in a 1000F frame but just barely. The rear head really wants to hit against the left side of the frame. The R also has mounting points on the front head that the F and 750 don't have. I don't know if the kF and the 750 share the same frame dimensions but as others have said, the R will go in after some mods. You have to do some creative cooling plumbing and probably have to use the R's wiring harness in order to use the R's ignition box. Not worth the hassle IMO.

I'm 99.9% sure that the Sabre cam cover would not work. The 0.1% is only because I've not tried it myself. The Sabres are not the same as the F engines, and the R heads are unique and not like other V4's.

Off topic, but Tim Cameron in AU who built the Gimp bike seems to have moved up in the world of bike design. Link: Welcome to Tim Cameron Design Looks like some interesting custom bikes he's doing now.
