Guys, fitted the Heli bars to the '98...better then the factory bars, but still want something higher. Are there any other kits available that anyone has heard of or fitted?
Found images of Japanese Police using the mighty 5th Gen with raised bars but haven't been able to find them in kit form.
    Cheers

    ajs,

I also have the Heli Bars and think they are a nice improvement, but also
would like them a little higher on my 5th generation with a Givi flip-up windscreen.

I was thinking of adding the Genmar spacers, but I wonder if there is enough
clearance at full lock to the left or right with the windscreen.

Also the control cables and hoses are almost at their limit. I wish motorcycle
manufacturers would realize that many people do these mods and a few inches
longer would be desirable (kinda like other things in the real world ;o)

Has anyone here used this combination?

With the heli bars fitted, the left bar comes very close to hitting the screen at full lock (slow turns). I thought about fitting the genmar spacers as well...don't know if you can?
The LSL kits look good, but they're not cheap and I wonder whether it's worth spending big coin to improve the situation, or get another ride.
It's such a shame that the boffins at Honda didn't create a more user friendly bar height...these motors are so well suited to covering big kms, but even with the Helis, the wrists hurt well before I want 'em too.
The Japanese Police VFRs' look the business, but they look like the fairing has been modified to accommodate the higher bars. If only Honda had released these as a 'touring option' or kit form with pre - modified upper fairing...ah well.
    Cheers
    Tony

I had the Helis on my "99 and wanted something higher, so I switched to the LSL Superbike kit. I found it much more comfortable. Also, you can use any 7/8" bar if the standard one isn't high enough. The stock cables were long enough - just - after some slight re-routing. If you went to a higher bar I think you'd need to go with longer throttle cables.

sorry, but wrist pain has nothing to do with the bars. work on body position, support yourself by gripping the tank and using you lower back..

I have Fatbars from a KX125 on my bike with a different upper triple and they work great. No issues with fairing interference, but I did have to go with longer throttle cables.

I'm doing dirtbike bars on my 6th gen but I'm also doing an F4i front end swap, custom top triple and I'm sure there will be some other issues to deal with once I get into it. Longer cables, lines and maybe electrics or fairing mods.. I'll be starting on it soon and posting up as I go, keep an eye out for my thread. I want to sit upright, have a fully adjustable suspension and lose the linked brakes.

Went to bike night the other day and meet a guy with ZX10 with dirt bike style handle bar. I sat on the bike and seem to be up high back futher then the Heli bar. I am not sure if it will be good for the cayon.............For a long ride I am sure would be benefit. (Ugly looking though) Just my 2cents

Misc ramblings Ive seen on more upright bars -
    - One guy installed - V1000R (1986?) stockers
    - Speigler LSL Superbike bars kit
    - Convertibars expensive, but way adjustable. They also sell extendend cables. That might be handy for any bar mod.

Not my bike (or taste) - but heres a photo of bars on a 6th gen.....

Hey Smokey - that's pretty much what I did on my '99 except I went with RC-51 forks. I used a custom upper triple from Stuntsteel that allows either conventional dirtbike "fatbars" ( I used KX125 bars ) or clip on style. It works great in all condtions, including the twisties. The difference with the good forks is amazing. I have CBR1000RR Tokiko radial mount brakes too, which is also a nice upgrade. Good luck with your project!!
