hey gang! here's my dilemma. i currently have a leather jacket, and an aerostitch roadcrafter jacket as well as a one piece rain suit. i'm deciding whether to get the 'stitch' pants to match the jacket or leather bottoms to zip into my leather jacket. my notorious wife (see 'help' thread in general discussion) and i are planning a 3-4 week mc tour in the fall or late summer ('10). we've never done a long trip like the one we have planned (new york state, montreal, quebec, and michigan). we like twisty roads so we'll be searching them out in lieu of droning along the highways. i guess my question is this: utility of the aerostitch or slightly better protection with the leather (looks better too! :reg: ) but having to put on the rainsuit during crap weather! :rain: we may get the chance to do a track day (shannonville?) with our friends in canada, but I won't be lugging my one-piece suit along just for that, so I need a solution! the other option, of course, is to live 3-4 weeks in my one-piece leathers. (eww-eww that smell! )

    thanks for your input

I have heard rave reviews on the Aerostitch products. They are just the thing for all weather touring.
The track day may be an issue. I think some tracks require leather(not positive).
The stitch should last you for years and I have also heard they have good customer service.

I have a one piece Roadcrafter suit and it is GREAT specially for a long trip since it also serves as a rain suit.

Why not rent a leather suit for track day or ship yours to your friends' house?

    Hey Sparky,

I have a nearly new Transit suit, that I need to sell. 46 jacket, 40 pants. Aerostitch waterproof leather. It could be your answer.

Assuming your leather jacket has all the right zippers in all the right places to attach the leather pants this might solve your clothing problem for your track day. Every track has different rules and checking on that aspect would be IMO a good start point.

Aerostitch make zip in pants that convert some of thier jackets to full suits. They also make a vest/suspender rig that zips to the style pants that zip to some of the jackets.

A chunk of change either way so best to talk to the real experts.

Aerostitch also have a new issue of pads for the elbow/shoulder pockets on the jackets.

    Customer service is A1.

The local track here will allow 2 piece leathers for the beginner class, but you need to have 1 piece leathers for the intermediate and advanced classes.

    motoport

i was informed that motoport products are US made and great quality. i'd probably check them out if i didn't have my aerostitch jacket. hopefully someone else will remember to compare motoport to aerostitch as far as made in US products are concerned.

Well, I have both. But. It is easier to pack a cheap rainsuit for the rain than it is to pack a leather suit for the protection. Leather first. Textile second

Also, on a long day in the rain at highways speeds, the textiles will not keep you dry. You still need the rain suit. As far as the smell, Just be sure to hang the leathers propped open over night. This will prolong the need to clean it.

A full waterproof (Aerostitch is a great example) textile suit is what I recommend. The states you will be traveling thru do not have the most stable weather as I am sure you are well aware. Hell, for all you know, your track day will be rained out. Not to mention, textile is MUCH MUCH MUCH more comfortable, cooler, and less swampy than leathers over the long run.

thanks everyone for their input. i'm gonna get the roadcrafter pants to zip onto my jacket. problem solved! btw, sportbiketracktime allows aerostitch or similar quality textiles so long as there is a full circumference zipper (which the roadcrafter does).
