I'll be using this thread to track my progress as I rebuild my 1999 VFR. So far it hasn't been too difficult of a project as most of the hard work was done by the previous owner. Here is what the bike looked like when the previous owner bought it:

Thanks!! You haven't even seen the best parts, yet (in my opinion). I'll keep updating this thread as I upload pictures.

Wow, the before/after pictures are dramatic. I have to wonder what the hell was the original owner doing? And wtf is up with the "bull's eye" on the passenger seat? Is that to mark where the rider lands after doing a somersault while doing a highchair wheelie?

Finally home in my garage after a quick U-haul ride. IT doesn't look too bad. The paintjob is a 8/10 and the exhaust has some surface rust. It already has some expensive goodies so now it's time to customize it my way.

Not at all! The previous owner was planning to use it as a track bike, so he didn't need passenger pegs, except the left side also is the helmet/seat lock. I've since reinstalled it with no problems.

I am by no means a mechanic, but I do have lots of tools, so teardown happened relatively quickly. I used labeled Ziploc baggies for every bolt/nut/clamp etc. I can't stress how important that was. Ive neglected to do that with other projects and it hasn't been pretty. At this point I also picked up a Haynes manual and downloaded the Service manual.

My plan at this point was to powdercoat the wheels, pegs, heat shields, controls, handlebars, levers, bar ends, center stand and side stand and also to ceramic coat the header and midpipe.

Next step was to sandblast all the parts. The old paint and surface rust came off easily.

The headers were shot with black ceramic and baked to cure.

Excellent ride!! When do we get to see the finished product?
What happened to it? Looks more like the PO's wife did a Tiger Woods on it with a 9 Iron or something, rather than a crash.

Well done! I like the silver and the finish you put on the exhaust looks great.
You mentioned you aren't a mechanic. Well, your work would indicate otherwise!

What color are you going to have the wheels powdercoated?

Thanks!! I am still putting the finishing touches on the plastics and then I will take it out and take some real pictures. As far as the accident, I'm not sure what happened.

Thank you. I'm mechanically inclined and not afraid to get my hands dirty, which goes along way in getting a project done. Here is sneak peek at the wheels:

Looks really good. My bike looks a little like your before pictures right now. I am working on getting it back together as it is my everyday transportation. I'm wondering how those green wheels are gonna look. The paint looks really good on them. I'm guessing you are gonna have a similar color in accents on the bike or were you planning on changing the bike color again? Either way, I'll be interested to see...
