I have recently been informed by another forum member, via the infamous JoeyDude thread, that I have not been forthcoming in my disclosure of the mods I have been performing. I figured I would address these allegations and post this thread, so that the keyboard cowboy from GA wouldn't be so upset.

I have been working on ways to improve the moment of inertia of the rear wheel, without having to change to a $2500.00 wheelset. I am in the process of doing some work to lighten up the rotating mass closest to the center, or hub, area of the rear wheel to improve acceleration and to get better grunt coming up off the corner. So far I have been able to remove a decent amount of weight from this area by performing these mods. The quick and easy formula is that for every 1 pound of weight removed from this area of the wheel is equal to 7 pounds in the seat. Pretty substantial. During this process I also wrapped my tailpipe components to aid in scavenging the spent exhaust gases.

    Here are some pics:

How did you manage to get the blanket on both sides of the bike? That's a cool mod.

Your Math Is A Little Off

So you can see the gain will not be linear, as you expected. The gain will actually be greater, if you take more off the outer part of the rim.

    I hope this helps.

I wanna know, how well it hold up at speed? Also, I can't find a towel to match my VFR's silver. Will a white towel work or do I need to paint the VFR to match the blue?

They are only available through a special distributor.

Kinda sexy with the dirty towel and exposed chain.

Does this signify throwing in the towel?

Is the towel white for reasons known by our French members? (pardon moi si vous please)

It's a DRAPE, not a towel, vfourbear said so!

I wonder what mods would be needed to use Venusian blinds instead...

Excellent drape placement, should increase the wind velocity of the turbulence factor just enough to keep the flux capacitor at peak operating efficiency. May also lead to longer muffler bearing life. Oh, btw, is that a slick fiddy stain????????

At the risk of this thread getting completely out of hand, the mods are actually just about to start. I have sourced the necessary parts and service providers and I'm about to get the whole thing started.

I am trying to lose a few pounds off of the unsprung weight of the stock rear wheel/swingarm assembly. Hoping to have a final loss between 3-5 pounds under stock. This will be accomplished by some selective machining and the use of ti hardware. This is the mod I needed to tie together what I already did to the shock linkage area. I am already close to this weight loss amount, so the next batch of tweaks should take it a little past that.

After I mess with the rear, and it proves to be succesful, I wil begin the process of getting everything together to do a completely new front end, hope to have the front end done sometime in 2010.
