Go4: For an inexpensive fix, simply grind one of the teeth off the front sprocket. Voila!

Yes, a torch is hotter than a boiling water, but it's the water that catalyzes the reaction and accepts the electrons from the metal in the sprocket. When electrons are released from the metal, the metal becomes stronger due to the ionic bond between the molecules.

I went +2 on the rear with a SpeedoHealer on my '06 and I would never go back to stock.

I don't needs to go over 125 mph on public highway anyway.

Yes this is physics 101. If you want to get even more life out of your chain you might want to mosey on over to your local particle accelerator lab and bombard the chain with boson particles.

Yes, I concur. I went -1 front, +2 rear and the highway rpm's were just too high so I dropped the front back to stock and left the +2 on the rear. 75mph in 6th gear is now a little less than 6K rpm, with the -1 up front it was closer to 6500 rpm if I remember correctly. I haven't noticed any change in mpg. This is on my 5th gen.

I don't boil my sprockets although I will steam them, or bbq them if I have some sauce in the kitchen.

Check this site out for gearing changes: Gearing Commander: Motorcycle Gearing Ratio Sprocket RPM Speed Chain Calculator

I dont know if it has older VFR's or not but I know 6th gens are on there. Larger in the front or smaller in the back will lower RPM's and thus possibly increase MPG. The change will likely not be too much, but noticible over the long term. It will make your speedo read incorrectly, but its possible that your speedo is off anyway.

As far as tempering or annealing your sprockets... that kinda stuff SHOULD already be done at the factory. Chances of you increasing the strength more than the way it comes from the factory are slim to none. Don't worry about it.

I do "it" every once in a while. Depends on if my girl's on her period.

Have you checked to see if you're missing any chromosomes yet? I'm sure you're missing at least 2 and maybe part of a third.

As long as it's Canola oil. They use that for tempering.

Going one down on the front from factory makes the chain take a small radius for the turn. Puts more stress on the links which = shorter life. How much shorter????

Untill all of his duping gets borish, at which point his humor begins to make him look like he's just another insufferable airhorn.
