are there any vfr gatherings in the tn/nc area. i've been around 'deals gap' and there always seems to be 'R1', 'busa', zrx, ad nauseum get-togethers. where's the vfr rally? there's a great mc campground in stecoah, nc (kickstand lodge) where we could meet and ride the fantastic roads 'round there. what do y'all say?
if there has been vfr rally's, i'm sorry...i'm new to the vfr and a returning vfr owner.

with enough advance notice, we could have vfr rally. i'm partial to the nc/tn area but would be willing to travel. the kickstandlodge.com in stecoah, nc is a great place to stay and use as a home base from which we could do our rides. i've only lived in the south for ~4 years so i don't know the weather very well. seems the rainy season is march/april. maybe sometime in may...? would love to meet other vfr folks. i know mo (owner of the ksl) and could organize sumthin if there was enough interest. btw, i'm open to rides during the weekday as i only work f,sat, sun.

    cheers!

This sounds interesting to me. Winter sucks. I need something to look forward to.
I took the day off to ride, the thermometer on the bike never got above 46. Two and a half hours and I am done.
I just put the bike on the battery tender.
Hope to ride some more before the January thaw, just hard to say this time of year.

Jaysonsmith and I were discussing just that over joe the other day but we would have to make some major planning to come out to the GAP. Stay tuned. It is going to happen.

VFRDiscussion.com has an annual meeting at the Gap. As for VFWorld, we're pretty loose and unofficial. Usually group rides are started with a "Hey wanna go for a ride?"

Right now it's too cold for a ride but sometime next year you could start a thread.

And yes, like matt said you better be fast and watch for flying objects ha ha ha!!!

Mo, at KickStand Lodge, is a great lady. I knew her old man, Fred, as well. We lost him a few years back.
Kickstand's in a perfect location for N.GA, N.C., and the Dragon.
I've stayed there several times in the past.
Plan a 'ride' weekend sometime next spring and you can count on quite a few of us to show up. I was up on Blood Mountain, 129, last week for a quick day jaunt.
(Sorry guys, last minute and with a couple of 1K sport bike riders)

SO , Joey do you go ride with the VFRD guys? what do you tell them? "no, I don't know those hooligans over at VFRworld."

I think if they knew you were associated with VFRW they would poke a hole in your fuel line or something....

A rally is a great idea. I am planning a trip in May, leaving the 28th of May for two weeks. We have a place in Franklin.

early june '10 in stecoah, nc

i'll plan on being at the kickstand lodge for the first week in june. i'm not sure but i don't think the ksl has any large groups scheduled (unless we take over). i do know that there is a 'warrior' fest that happens close to that time of year but i'm thinking it's mid-may. the warriors adopted me as i was wandering about on my tuono without a group to call family! with the recent acquisition of a '00 vfr, that's changed.
at any rate, if any parties are interested, the weather in early june isn't blistering hot, rainy season should be over and kids are still in school. THP doesn't seem to ramp up their presence until weekends and mid summer and that's mostly on the gap. there are better rides around deal's gap anyway.

see y'all (hopefully) first week in june 2010 .

Have you thought about layering your panties to see if that helps muhahahaha !!!!

It's never too cold for a ride Joey!! Just make sure you have a good balaclava, gloves, and some thermal underwear and you'll be fine. As long as it's not wet or too windy I am willing to ride even when it's close to freezing.

    Regards,
    Rollin
