    MEASURE WITH CHAIN COLD

    1) Put your bike on the center stand ; 2) get a measuring tape ; 3) Put bike in gear ; 4) turn bottom of rear wheel backwards to tighten the top train of chain ; (5 measure the slack of the bottom train of chain half way between f/r sprockets ; 6) 1 inch slack (use one of the pins in the chain) do not put pressure on the chain when checking, lift chain with your finger till it stops, move the tape so you have an even number at the pin, without moving tape push down on chain(no pressure) if the pin reaches an inch from the other measurement it's correct, if it doesn't correct the chain tension till it does reach an inch. NO TIGHTER THAN AN INCH..... NO LOSER THAN AN INCH AND A 1/4

    7) take bike out of gear so you can rotate chain to check another section of the chain (the same way you checked the first time). (some parts may be loser or tighter than other sections)

    8) The tightest section is where it should measure 1' to 1 1/4"

    9) Torque the pinch bolt that allows chain to be adjusted

    10) Oil chain every 3 to 500 miles with BelRay chain lube ( DO NOT LUBE WHILE CHAIN IS MOVING, TURN BY HAND)

I never tighten my chain. Look into the Nevertight chain. It's great. It has little small elastic bands in each link so they expand and contract depending on the tension. They're pricey, though.

Yerr, admit saying "stretch" is the commonly used lazy way of not explaining the total wear process that makes the chain seem unevenly longer, now please take an Advil and have a little lie down.

MIKE, it's a classic sign: your chain is WORN OUT and needs replacement with a quality 530 O-ring chain, along with 2 new sprockets.....

If you look carefully at the video linked by john451, you clearly see that the "click" is at the master link. The pin of the link is wornout and the link too long ("stretch") to fit in the sprocket teeth. You could also observed the different slack under the swingarm depending on the position of the master link.

This stuff needs to stop, if you folks have any respect for this site, you won't respond to anymore of this nonsense. if you truly are this fucking stupid, then you shouldn't be riding motorcycles on public streets.

If that is the case and the rest of the chain is good, couldent he simply replace the masterlink?

I think the time has come to start polishing up the banhammer..go over to VFRD and ruin that site, you wouldn't last a week doing it.

Dude, what the heck is your problem....

I have never owned a bike before. For all i knwo a chain loosening up over several hundred miles could be a normal thing.

How could i know if i have never owned one before.

if you arnt interested in giving me advice then you need to lay off of the people that are.

as i have stated SEVERAL times now, i think i havent been tightening the pinch bolt enough.

but yet you wont lay off of me long enoguh for me to see if that is infact why it keeps getting loose.

on a side note i dont think the chain is bad, if it was it would keep getting longer and i wouldent be able to get it tight at all.

I'm not falling for the shtick, this information is readily available throughout this site and is also contained in any service manual. I'm not going to lay off you, i've had my fill of this game and i have decided to make it a little more interesting for you.

I just did a search of every thread started by you.....you should look at that list yourself. i'm confident that i'm not out of line here, therefore, you now have a new game to play: avoid the banhammer. as you will probably require a 10" thick instruction manual (which you will never read) and start to ask more of your "questions"...the game is very similar to whack a mole....it's just that the hammers do more damage.
