I can't find many places around here that will powder coat my 6th Gen rims. The one that isn't too far away says that they will sand blast and powder coat them for a total of $100. Does that sound like it is on the low side? The last time I had rims done was 5 years ago and I spent $225 for the same services. Did I over pay the first time around? Is $100 in the ball park or should I be concerned?

The first price is what I used to pay but in Sacramento right now it ranges from $100 to $150 , tough times out there and shops are hungry.

Deffinately - what Toe Cutter said, slow times, less business brings prices down. Supply and demand, the key to a capitalist free market society.

why do you want powder coating over painting? Rims on my CBR were powder, and still chipped. Make sure whoever you have do it has done it before, unlike the previous owner of the CBR. He hadn't, and it had runs in it that were there.

You can get these prices now at reputable shops... $80 was the highest quote I got so I brought my buisness to the top powder coating buisness in my area (Ill spend $20 more not to worry about the quality). If done right powder coating is far mor durable than paint to chips and chemicals, it is truly the way to go especialy at todays prices. Make sure that whoever does this process blasts, chemicaly cleans, and chemicaly primes your wheels prior to coating and you will have no worries.

I know when it was done (I didn't do it, previous owner did) he needed to replace the wheel bearings. Cooked the grease in there when they cooked the rims. Don't forget to replace them, as now would be the easiest.

That is something to consider... I had the wheels done and repaced bearings and seals at the same time. If you plan on powder coating the items have to be baked shurly ruining the bearings and seals. New bearings and seals are a must for powdercoating, but if you are at that stage I think that it is a good idea to replace these parts at this at this time weather you plan to powdercoat or paint.

Yes, I had the tires removed yesterday, along with the bearings and seals out of the front rim. The rear rim is so nice to deal with! All I need to do is take them to the powder coater. Based on everyone's feedback, I'm feeling a little more comfortable that the price isn't too low - I don't want someone experimenting with my rims. Thanks everyone for the feedback.

They're going to be white. For me, that is the only color for the RWB. I've never liked the black rims, but figured I'd get them coated white at the first tire change which is where I'm at now. I'll definitely have pictures when I get the bike back together.

I've got the rims dropped off to the shop. The closest color match we could find is a pearlescent white. He powder coated me a 6" x 3" sample and it looks great. It is very close to the stock paint. I was concerned that if I went with a plain white that the rims would stick out from the white base of the RWB color scheme.

I had two wheels done here in LA for $70 for my Busa, which included sandblasting. And they were huge wheels. I like all my wheels black. I'm not much on cleaning them, and white is too hard to keep the chain gunk off of them.

Thanks for the info in this thread, folks. I need to have my front wheel repaired (slightly dented rim from a hard hit in the past) and since the rear wheel has some paint gouges anyway, I've been thinking about getting both wheels powdercoated this winter.

No doubt that white rims require a lot of attention to keep them looking nice, but for the RWB VFRs / Interceptors, they make the bike look absolutely awesome. My 750 came stock with the white rims, I powder coated the rims white on my 500, but I think that I will keep the 1000R black. On the 1000R, I've seen some bikes where people have coated them white and it just doesn't look right for that bike.

I picked the rims up from the coater's today. They did a great job. $100 for both rims. The pearl white looks absolutely great too. I just dropped them off at the bike shop where I'm having a set of Bridgestone Battlax BT020 tires put on. I'll see if I can post some pictures after I pick them up next week.
