There is no way Honda doesn't know how much it cost them to produce the 2010 VFR and how much they need to charge for it. It's my opinion that they are witholding the price in order to create a "feeding frenzy". The bigger the frenzy the more the price goes up. Don't fall into the trap. It's never been a good idea to buy the first year of any vehicle. Let them experiment with someone else's wallet. This is an overweight and probably over priced sport bike. This is "cheesy marketing" at it's cheesiest.

I have just one thing to say - Ducati Multistrada 1200. It makes you think, "Honda who?"

Agreed! Plus, the local Duc dealer almost always has demo bikes available and they encourage test rides. Complete opposite of the local Honda dealer. They act like they are doing you a favor by talking to you.

Is all this valuable information direct from Honda or some guy who was selling used cars at Moe's Previously Misused Auto Emporium two weeks ago and just landed a job at your local Honda stealer?

Lord help you if Moe runs both outfits.

BTW one trip to your local Duc dealer and the labor charge for setting desmo valves might just be as much as a new Honda..

True, however $800 for a VTEC check every 16K ain't cheap either. I realize the new VFR will be different, but the new duc's intervals are supposed to be longer too.

Only if one has a VTEC and can't find an alternate source to the local Honda stealer. On my old TEC BMW and SR500 a couple of wrenches and a set of feeler gauges is all I need. My 91 VFR chugs right along without much much tweaking and has since 1991 when I bought it brand new.

So what is the interval on a Duc and how many hours does the duc book say and how much an hour is your local duc stealer getting to just adjust those desmo heads?

How is ol Moe BTW? ;)

Cut Honda some slack. Aren't they marking down their excess 07s? I'm not condoning their shyster tactics. If their hype doesn't sell, they'll be marking down again in the future.

I've always been interested in the Multistradas...
But how many miles can you ride in between valve adjustments? And how much would that cost?
    Damn you exotic italian motorcycles

Honda is not marking down anything. Dealers buy the "Hondas" from Honda. They own them. The days of real motorcycle people owning shops is waning. This is big business and hype is a part of it. About the only difference between car dealers (Honda car dealers included) and motorcycle dealers is what is on the showroom floor.

Do you think they are gonna cut you some slack? I don't think so. Especially Moe..;)

I had an Aprilia Futura and sure the stator connector was crap but in 12000 miles the motor was as tight as new.

A typical Honda, creating a lust factor, so hopefully it doesn't go the way the Rune and that what DN??? ya they know what they want for it, no fooling me, I figure in a couple years they'll be wanting to unload them like the cbr1000rrr there fore I can wait. be interesting to see if there is a sticker on it at the MC show. In the mean time yea Ducati.. that and a certian KTM.. then ther's that crazy little 4th gen too.

    BadBilly,
That's my problem, no place but the dealer if I want the VTEC checked. I may give it a shot this winter my self. I also have a friend who has a 999 and I've watched him replace the belts and adjust the valves. Did it in one day and didn't seem all that hard. Not that I can afford it, but I'm going to test ride a new street fighter next week if the weather's nice.

RVFR said precisely what I said, Badbilly. I don't see the hype getting them very far. They will be doing in a couple of years what they are doing right now with all the leftover 07s if they are banking very heavily on the hype.

I'm not worried about being cut slack anyway. I don't buy new.

So who owns all those bikes in a warehouse which various dealers have access to?

Who supplies the dealers with the factory incentives?

There is no place that you know of but the dealer. Let me suggest looking around for a "bike night" or a club. I watched a guy fix a sort of pricy watch I have. He made it look easy.

Have they changed the bike show in Seattle? Is Honda the only one who will be trying to create a lust factor? I hope they have some nekkid wimmen on the floor when I get there.

The "hype" comes in many forms including this site.Somewhere out there in motorcycle land there are probably fan type sites for almost everything Honda ever made including lawnmowers. My dad had one BTW, and it was great. I am happy that you are not worried. I hope you are saying that it is not your regular practice not to "buy new" , rather than saying you never "buy new."

The dealerships are franchises. Removing all the t's that need crossed and the i's that need dotted to secure a franchise with Honda or any other vehicle sales franchise is a business like any other. The dealers buy from the corporation who have sales arms. Honda or any other does not supply products to the franchise holders.
