    The Medic With God

The Medic Stood and Faced God
Which Must Always Come To Pass
He Hoped His Uniform Was Clean
    He'd Gotten Dressed Kinda Fast

    "Step Forward Now, Paramedic
How Shall I Deal With You?
Have You Always Turned The Other Cheek?
To My Church Have You Been True?

The Medic Squared His Shoulder And Said,
    "No Lord, I Guess I Ain't
Cause Those Of Us Who Wade In Blood
    Can't Always Be A Saint

I've Had To Work Most Sundays
And At times My Talk was Tough
    And Sometimes I've Been Violent
Cause The World Is Awful Rough

But I Never Took A Penny
    That Wasn't mine To Keep
Though I Worked Alot of Overtime
When The Bills Got Too Steep

And I Never Passed A Cry For Help
Though At Times I Shook With Fear
    And Sometimes, God Forgive Me
    I Wept Unmanly Tears

    I Know I Don't Deserve a Place
    Amonth The People Here
    They never Wanted me Around
    Except to calm their fears

If you have a place for me, Lord
    It Needn't Be So Grand
I Never expected or Had too Much
And If you don't, I Understand

There was silence all around the throne,
    Where saints had often trod
    As The medic waited quietly
For the judement of his God

    "Step forward now, paramedic
    You've borne your burdens well
    Walk peacfully on heavens streets
You've done your time in hell"

A tripod site out of Canada. I did search for it. I'd seen it before one of those nites that I was feeling prety shitty. I was working SWAT and Youngstown Police had an officer killed in the line of duty, we responded to the search and I found out that It Was Mike, he was a full time cop and volenteer fireman and happend to be ingaged to a fellow Deputy from my Department. We spent days on the hunt. The suspect ended up bolting to Florada, gave up to SWAT there, got him back, convicted, and on death row. He hung himself before he got the needle. We felt cheated. But we all came together, we have been doing that alot. I was Army SpecOps before I became a cop. The closeness I felt with the guys I served with on active duty I share with the emergency services people I serve with now. We all have had to deal with some bad shit. And we still wake up, gear up, and drive on. Most people must be smarter than us, they don't have to face the things we do every day. When I was 18 and bitching about how miserable it was to be a young paratrooper, how I have to wake up at 5am, clean a shitter that I didnt screw up, stand in formation in the rain, and maybe get my ass sent to war before breakfast? This ain't fair! My Sgt looked me in the eye and said, "THAT'S why it's called SERVICE!" I may feel bad sometimes, but since that day, I have got up, grabbed my gear, and went to work. Every day I am blessed enough to go home, see the wife and my girls & crack a beer, I remember the one's who did'nt. It's partially because of them I plan on doing this again tomorrow.

Drewl, sorry to hear about this. I am a volunteer EMT here in CT and anytime that something like this happens, it always gets to me. I am grateful to the fellow brothers and sisters that put their lives on the line day in and day out, whether they are volunteer or paid, Firefighters or Policemen, EMT's or Paramedics, they all deserve to be recognized and honored. My prayers are with you brother.

    Drew,

I'm coming into this a little late and was just reading up on what happened. The only thing I can think of to say is something someone told me when someone close to me recently passed. They told me that God needed them in heaven more than we needed them here. It probably sounds lame and corny to many people but it really helped me rationalize something so tragic and hurtful. Be thankful for the time you got to spend with them and try to find peace in knowing that God had a higher purpose for them. My prayers go out to you and your family and all the family and friends of those involved.

    ---Chuck

Chuck, you hit the nail on the head.
I stand down here and think how unfair it is.
Then God reminds me I am not Him.
If I could stand up there next to Him and see things from His perspective, it would make much more sense.
Until I get to those gates and fall at His feet, I shall have to wait and trust that He is God. And know that He is in control.

Drew, a good friend of mine was crew chief on an Air Force C-130 during Viet Nam. They flew Air-Sea Rescue. He was so very proud, and rightfully so, of the patch he wore on his arm. It was angels wings wrapped around I think, a baby, but I will never forget the words under those wings "So Others May Live". Those four words gave evey mission purpose. Every time they took off they never knew what they were about to get into, but one thing they always knew, they were about to help someone who really needed their help.

I'm sure you and your friends felt the same way every time you head out. They knew the possibilities and were happy to take the risk each and every time. Do not get trapped in their loss. Rejoice in purposefull lives well lived. Think of the lives that are around today because of these HEROES and their sacrifice. They did what they did "So Others May Live".

My prayers are with you and your friends. The angels wings are now wrapped around them!

Our fist instinct was to close the doors, and lay down and die.
The very first day, the father of our chief flight nurse grabbed our CEO by the collar and said, "Don't you dare quit! Don't you let Clint down!"

We have decided that the day we are back in service we will be bloodied from beating each other to get into the helicopter and grab the radio to make the call..."Control 1, Mountain Lifeflight 3 is responding!!!!"

ever wonder if maybe we're here
until we get to go on to something much better?
like it's a test, and you pass.....for whatever reason.....
and once you get there, it will all make sense.

my heart goes out to the families.

    Thanks for your service, Drew.

There were so many people at the candle light vigil tonight it is a good thing the fire department was there.
The idea for the vigil was just off the cuff and we thought it might just be a small gorup to pay their respects.
There were literally hundreds of people there. News crews from Reno even came to cover the event.
