I suggest you use any good quality branded oil in a weight suggested in the manual. Your filter needs to be the strongest link in the system. More money spent does not always equal a better filter. Check this study out.

Use 10w40 such as Castrol, Pennzoil or Rotella T but any car oil that you use should NOT have the marking of "energy conserving" (In the circle on the back of the label) because that will ruin your clutch and make it slip.

Extra virgin olive oil. Just make sure it's imported.

If your planning on making it to over 100,000.miles, than I'd use(and I do)this.

    https://www.mobiloil.com/USA-English/MotorOil/Oils/Mobil1_Racing_4T_10W-40.aspx

Amsoil is just a little better(by it's own testing)as the Mobil1 took 2nd place out of about 10 different brands. I'd rather use the Mobil1 because I can find it in most auto parts stores for less than $10. a quart.

There's lots of oil threads with lots of debate - but since nobody has really suggested anything - on an older bike I would use a synth/dino blend motorcycle oil. I use to use GoldenSpectro 10w - 40 on the old bikes before I upgraded to more current bikes and went full synth. Why a blend on the old bike? Because full synth on the old stuff has a tendency to find a leak point on the bike. If there is a marginal gasket with a leak waiting to happen, full synth will finish the job for you. Same thing happened to me with cars too.

    Good luck

+1 Syn oil has smaller molecules, that's why it performs better but it can seep thru a potential bad seal/gasket easier than the large molecules in dino oils.

Sure, thats true, but an older engine needs the stronger film strength of a syn.
