    Hi All,

I'm looking for a double check on a couple of VF500F dimensions.

I've attached a drawing for reference.

    The dimensions are:

    • from the inside machined face of the swingarm to the sprocket
    • from the inside machined face of the swingarm to the brake disk

    Many thanks!

    nice drawing

Do you have access to to a CAD program? You should try to get JamieDaugherty to give you dimensions or maybe Matt1986vf500f who has modified his rear wheel.

1" from swingarm to sprocket, 1-3/4 from swingarm to disk
    hope that helps

    mm

Thank you - going metric do you come up with:
    • 25.4mm machined part of swingarm to sprocket
    • 44.45mm machined part of swingarm to brake disc

Let me know if you still this info. My 500's don't have the stock wheels anymore but I can double check with my CAD models for you.

My models agree, more or less. For the sprocket side dimension I have 17.5mm. That's from the outside of the sprocket (530 size) to the inside of the chain adjuster. Note that this not to the inside of the swingarm leg itself.

A 530 sprocket is approximaltely 9.5mm thick (30/80ths, or 0.375in) so the actual controlling dimension is 27mm to the sprocket mounting face. I hope this helps!

Thanks for the double check! Would you happen to also have a reference dimension from the swingarm to the rotor?

No, sorry. I didn't detail that area out in my models because I was never going to use the stock rotor or caliper bracket.

I took another look at my bike - if I could triple check the dim's here - the 27mm that you have noted is from the machined surface of the swingarm (directly below the chain adjuster) to the mounting face on the stock cush drive? Many thanks!

No. As mentioned, it's not from the swingarm itself. The dimension is from the inside of the chain adjuster, meaning the surface facing the centerline of the bike.

The chain adjusters are 3mm thick material so the dimension you are referring to would be 30mm.

    cush drive and sprocket

    Hi All,

Would someone out there have a spare stock VF500F cush drive and sprocket handy? I could use a dimension double check (4 dim's to be exact) - please see the enclosed drawing.

    Many thanks!

    A couple of comments:

    1) The sprocket depends on the series. Assuming it's a 530 chain, that means it's 30/80in or 0.375in thick. That would be 9.52mm.

    2) Two of the dimensions you are looking for go to surfaces that are not functonal. There are two very key dimensions that you do not show. One is from the sprocket mounting surface to the bearing inside edge. The other is from the sprocket mounting surface to the clearance for the wheel hub.

I'll see if I can double check those for you tonight.

Apologies if I'm being daft but for the VF500F's stock 530 chain (.375" roller width) wouldn't the sprocket thickness be .343" (8.72mm)? Thx!

    You are not going DAFT!

I just walked out to the garage to check it out for you. I checked a JTR 1334.45 Steel sprocket. I cross referenced the stock rear sprocket on the JTSprockets.com web site before I went out to the garage. I pulled my 1" mike out of the cabinet and got my hands and fingers dirty picking up the greasy mess that was left on the sprocket when I removed it to replace it. It measured 0.3377 inch thick at the thickest part of the body. While I was at it I checked the Front sprocket from the same set and it was 0.343 inches thick. I hope this helps you figure things out. You might try searching the various sprocket manufactures web sites for correct dimensions of sprockets.

That's interesting, all of the sprockets I've measured have been pretty close to the nominal size. Now you guys are going to make me go measure some sprockets.

The idea here is that you should not take any measurements from the outside of the sprocket. The controlling surface is where the sprocket mounts to the carrier.

    sprocket and hub

Thank you for checking on this. The .343in (8.72mm) jives with what I have for the thickness of a stock VF500F sprocket.

Would you happen to have a spare VF500F hub on the work bench for a double check of the other dimensions?

5x5 - would you happen to have a stock VF500F hub in the parts bin for a double check on a few of the other dim's? Thx!
