Long, I was kidding. All the new bikes are coming out with monstrous displacement, which I think is kind of ridiculous. Who needs 150 HP for street riding? I love my 100HP bike and probably will never sell it. Can't wait for the Ducati 1598R, though. Rumor has it, that it will have 247HP, weigh 250# wet, and have all the comfort of a medieval torture device.

 

+1. The growing displacements crack me up, esp. "power cruisers" like 1800cc v-twins. I could understand it on a full dresser, but not a non-bagger.

My 800cc, 100 hp, 3.5 second 0-60 mph, 155 mph top speed VFR is enough for me, even with the hard bags loaded up for a weekend trip. 2-up touring would probably be a different story, but since that'll never happen for me it's not a concern.

 

I wonder what the VFR is going to be like 10 years from now - VFR2000? Are we evolving at such a rate to require that much motor? Like most things, competition between the brands for a bigger piece of the pie (or to keep the piece they have) has led to runaway selection. As in the animal kingdom, it is the most insane spec sheet (e.g. high HP numbers, lowest weight, etc.), or showy display, that will receive the most attention. And they're all trying to outdo themselves.

 

Jaimev, I am messing with you bud. When you get the new bike just bring her over so I can test ride her and will tell you if the bike is perfect for you.
As for the displacement.................Bigger does not mean better.

the nice thing about this bike is that it's no longer the worlds ugliest bike, there is a new shamu in town

Pretty much all the fun road riding I do is in the 35-65 mph range anyway.
I tend to dump the big displacement bikes in this territory. I bet the same with you, eh, Tim . . . ?

 

it will be like the DN-01, VFR 2000 is reverse engineered from it.......

As for the larger displacement..... I seem to remember a phrase......"there is no replacement, for sheer displacement".

 

Gee can we say Boss VFR anytime soon?
