I need some advise on this one. I decided to remove the rear plastic fender on my '06 VFR. I didn't buy a new "fender eliminator kit" but rather thought that the metal brace that is mounted under it would surfice as I would still be able to mount my liscence plate on it. My concern however is that this pre-existing metal bracket does not provide any support for the rear cowl and tail light assembly. I didn't realize that the original fender supported the tail end untill it was removed and I noticed some flexing when I put my hand down on the tail section. Is this a problem and if so do the after market "fender eliminater kits" provide the rear support needed that the factory fender apparently does. Any help would be great.

P.S I will post a photo of this when it is done.

I took the metal brace that was under the plastic rear fender and sprayed it an aluminum grey to match the exposed frame work on the bike, but as mentioned above this bracket doesn't provide the support that I beleive the original plastic fender provided for the tail end of the rear cowl assembly. What do you think. If this is not the right approach than I can just buy a proper kit, if it is ok than I saved $50.

Hi Guys, Any photos to post yet I am considering either buy a kit or doing my own thing but I also maybe changing the exhaust so this maybe a larger project than just removing the fender.

    Tail fender

I took the plastic fender off and cut it down, relocated the light, and sanded down the edge to give it the factory look. This allowed me to get rid of the fender while maintaining the support for the tail of the bike.
