I've had a few close calls, but never laid one down. Shattered my right ankle keeping a bike up once when the front tire blew apart at 70mph...Tire company paid all expenses cuz the tire was brand new so i got lucky there.

5 times. But was stopped each time. 4 times just loosing ballance. Nearly a head on once. But when mine starts to go, I just guide it down to the ground. I won't go overboard in keeping it upright. Back injuries and all

Sorry to hear about the crash. Hope you're generally OK, and the same for the bike.

I haven't laid mine down, but I've dropped it twice - once in the garage trying to get 'er up on the c-stand, and once in the street on a very slow right u-turn (bad technique on my part). No real damage to the bike nor to me either time.

i was actually going to ask that very question. seems it would be quite hard to keep a bike up if the front tire blew. either tire for that matter.

Was talking to a customer day before yesterday. someone she knows that rides a harly had to lay it down. a semi pulled out in front of him. He had to lay it down to be able to slide under the trailer.

    That would suck.

This used to be common with bikers, esp. in the old days when motorcycle brakes weren't nearly as good as they are now, even on big cruisers. Now most people (old schoolers excepted) will avoid laying down the bike unless absolutely necessary, b/c you lose all control of your situation/trajectory/stopping ability.

I have no idea what happened during your laydown, GoForARide so I'm not judging, just stating what I've read over the last few years.

my F3 went down a total of 3 times. All low speed (OK, stopped) incidents. Garbled up the plastic a little, but not worth repairing. nothing since.

Now, where is that wood I need to knock on?

I dropped mine in the garage 2 times, and once on the street... was making a left hand turn, was in middle of intersection waiting on traffic hole to turn. Light started turning red and was waiting on traffic to stop to clear the intersection, saw traffic slowing down for light and started to make the turn when a damn lady in a sedan decided that she wanted to go through, so she gunned it. I heard it, grabbed clutch and brake to stop movement, and bike started to tip... she had the nerve to curse at me as she flew through the BLATANTLY red light... as the bike toppled to the ground. Luckily I had someone help me to right the bike. Aside from Right mirror being moved in its travel (not broken) there was no damage other than to my temper.

Wish i knew my friends email so i coudl forward this to him. got into an argument about weather you are supposed to sit in the intersection waiting for traffic to clear or not. he said you are supposed to "establish your lane". I said youll get hit.
