Some are offended by "the monkey" 02.

Out of respect for those offended, the monkey will be at a track day next year were he is welcome:ninja:

Thanks for the tips, guys. I think adjusting those things would help reduce the lean angle a bit. There have been times when I hang off more, but I feel like I have less control because I am further to the side of the bike. I'll practice this on the weekend and see how it goes.

What about inside knee positioning? By this I mean, straight out (perpendicular to the bike) or kind of hugging the inside fairing. I think straight out is better because more of the mass is farther from the bike.

By the way, that monkey vid is saddening.

inside knee should be loose, if it hits, great, if not no biggie. Outside knee however should be locked in on the tank and a lever/stabilization point for the body.

    +1!

Your knee is what should hold you on the bike and you need to rest your upper body on the side of the tank. Outside arm nice and relaxed on the tank too.

If you are hanging full off and the bike feels unstable I'll bet you are trying to hang onto the handlebars. That upsets the bike badly.

Keith Code is right (on alot of levels) but when he harps on the "don't tighten up on the handlebars" survival reaction. There is a reason why. Nothing f's with the bikes line, suspension and turning abilities more than that. betarace and I were talking (he sent me a good article on this issue) and at the track I couldn't figure out why I was running wide in some turns? Reason? I was nice and relaxed turning in, but once I was over and my knee was down I would tense up on the bars. The bike automatically starts to run wide because your arms are not letting the bikes suspension do its job and make its own little adjustments. Its hard to remember that once a bike is set into a turn, the motorcycle only needs the rider to roll on the throttle to keep it going and keep the suspention in the 'sweet spot'.

    RELAX!

    Repeat that 1000 times; I do:biggrin:

Thanks, guys. Yeah, I need to remember to relax during the turn and get my upper body lower. I appreciate your suggestions.

Sup guys. Went riding again today and applied the tips suggested. Yep, hanging off more and getting my head lower reduced the amount of peg scraping. It only happened once today. The only problem I have is with my outside arm. Since I'm tall (6'4"), my outside knee takes up most of the area of the tank, where my arm would go. So, I have to keep my elbow out, a la Ben Speis. This feels good and natural to me. Maybe that's why Ben does it; he's tall from what I remember. As long as I don't use the bars to keep myself up or put too much force on them, I should be ok, right?

Here's a photo showing why my arm can't rest on the tank:

Upper body down and off more and you can. But if you can stay relaxed in the position you are in, then it may not be an issue.

I'm 6'1" and can rest my arm on the tank (look at my picture gallery).

We'll chat more about this soon.

Check out this pic of me when I was at the dragon and like Bubba Zanetti I'm 6'1" and you can clearly see my arm just touching the tank:

From looking at your picture, try pushing your butt further back so you're almost lying down on the bike instead of sitting up.

Went out again today and was able to get really low on the inside of the bike. This did create more room for my arm to rest against the tank. Also, no peg scraping.
