I had to kill...........

Well I had to kill two pitbulls monday morning 5:30am. They had killed my 2 300# hogs and then tried to attack my wife in the barn and then me.

The owner of the dogs was pissed at me :thumbsup:. I told her what if my kids had been the one's to go and feed the hogs (which were the 16 year old's FFA school project) before they got on the bus for school (one is 5 years old and the other 16) like they normally would? She just kept cussing me. So I told her in a very nice way that if I see anymore of her pitbulls that I will assume they a dangerous and she will not even get a phone call next time, her dogs will just not come home. And the cops backed me up!! the cops even thanked me for killing them so they didn't have to do the extra paper work for lethal force..in front of her

I called the cops in order to record everything and to help track down the owners so they also have to go to court for failing to control a dangerous animal. Now they are really going to be pissed when I give them the bill for the two hogs.....$1600.00. The cops put down $3000 on the report so I'm giving them a break really.

BTW FYI a 12 gauge slug from 5 feet away will destroy a pit bull and there is no chance that they will ever get up.

 

Good Job. I've had problems with dogs while mountain biking (on the west mesa for anyone in ABQ). I rode home, picked up my .357 and went back out in the truck. Dogs were still there so I took 2 of them out. The rest managed to run away. I have absolutely no patience with wild or loose dogs that are aggressive. Hopefully, you'll get your money back for the hogs.

Wow you had a eventful morning! I would have done the same thing, good for you. People who let vicious and from what I understand hungry and vicious dogs loose out in residential areas where children are present get what they deserve. You should also sue then in Civil court for endangering your family.

 

i love pittbulls ive owened several but i always told my self if they ever hurt someone or something i would kill them my self thankfully my dogs dont have a mean bone in there body. they have been the best dogs i have ever owened .just goes to show amimals are products of there enviroment

 

Not really these were her babies and they were well kept and not made mean. The breed has been made that way. It took 1000's of years to get them the way they are and your never going to take all of that out of them. You could have the perfect one then one day it just snaps and they can't help it it's just in them. I just don't understand why anyone would even want a dog that you had to worry about that? I mean IF it gets out and does something the damage is done and some damage is not so easy to fix.
The hogs can be replaced but my kids can't and I couldn't kill a million dogs and get them back. So why even take that chance???

 

they didn't even eat the hogs they just killed them!! and after all of this we found out they had been a problem for other people as well...I guess I'm the only one that doesn't value a dogs life more than my own........

 

i hate to say this but all dogs bite hunt and kill there animals and its been in there blood since the first dog . pitbulls are loyal dogs and love to please there owner maybe she used them for hog hunting seeing thet you live in tn its probbable very common breed for hog hunting. blam the owner not the dog and yes there is always a rotten apple

 

I agree with jcoplen.

If an owner doesn't contain their animal it's their fault. The dog does what's instinctual. People who let their dogs run loose obviously have no respect for their neighbors, have no idea of how to evaluate risk (your wife could have been killed), and don't place any value on the dog.

It's sad you had to put the dogs down, because they didn't start out as bad animals, their ignorant owners make them that way

here's my take.....good for you..protecting your family comes first..If they had been my dogs. I would have been pissed but I understand the big picture..

when I was in the military My friend inherited an 18 month old Rotwieler, he was good with the kids and everything was great. Then one day while the kids weere out playing in the drive the dog snapped, pulled one off of his bike and mauled him pretty good.

My friend was not home right then, but when he got there 30 minutes later, I handed him the 45 with five rounds in it and the dog got every one . of course the first one killed him the other four were for stress.

Is your wife Ok?

 

Again, who the hell leaves a large dog running loose, or even chained outside (which makes any dog territorial) with kids around. Any dog has a capacity to do damage, and it is the owners responsibility to anticipate such things.

I'm not trying to say if you own them then you are bad and I can agree with most of what you said as in all dogs are "wolves"...however, the odds of something happening are much, much greater with a dog like a pitbull and there are other breeds as well not just pits. How many times do you hear of labs going on killing sprees (I'm sure in has happened but not much)or yorkies? The selective breeding that has happened over the many years has happened to create (inhance) certain things such as a short face on a bull dog, the herding instinct of the shepards, or the killer instinct of the pitbulls. And you can not care for them enough to take the breeding out of them. You can try to train them to act against their nature however they are "animals" and it doesn't always happen. And you will never no when it will happen. So why take the chance

BTW They do use pits as hunting dos here for bear but they were never used as hunting dogs...trust me. i had her as a student a few years she not doing any hunting and she raised them from pups they were her babies. House dogs!

Next time after you guys done with the dogs can you guys send them to me? Cause I can throw a big BBQ and invite all of the VFRW over :biggrin::thumbsup:
Anyway you both do the right thing. The safty of you and your family first I don't care if it a dog or human.....................

 

I would imagine a 12 ga. slug does a pretty good job on a dog.

Shame about the dogs, and the kids' project, but you did what you had to.

Lets hope the dog owner doesnt get too pissy about it, people can get that way about their dogs, even if their negligence or circumstances warrant putting one down.

 

she fine she hurt her foot a little trying to get out of the barn and get the stall door closed before they got to her and I just had surgery on my hand so shooting the shotgun with slugs was......less than fun to say the least popped a few stiches but lucky for us we WILL live

we were 2 weeks from harvesting the pigs....all of that meat just buried...what a shame.....they would have made a great BBQ

 

WOW a former student....small town...any way you did right......hopefully the dogs weren't "sick"

we Id'ed the dogs by the rabies tags. we found them on the other side of the barn with pieces missing......
