Does any one have a vf1000r and if so does your foot hit the kickstand when tring to shift. I have to push the kick stand down to get my foot between the shifter and kickstand and it still hits my foot on both sides. I looked at the kick stand and it looks like it could be benta little but i really can't tell. I also have a hard time believing that cast metal could bend with out braking. If any body could give me some insight on this that would be great.

Yes. I used a grinder to remove the rubber wear bracket first and then drilled and tapped a very small hole where the kickstand rests against the stop. Added a very small screw in the hole I tapped so I can adjust the kickstand final position further down where it doesn't interfere.

Here's a pic of what I did, although this is a different bike, same idea. The screw head keeps the kickstand in a lower position and you can screw it out further if you need more room.

My vf500 does the same thing and apparently it's very common to these old bikes, you have to figure the stand gets bent a little after 20+ years or so of having the bike's weight on it. I took off the rubber foot and will grind of the metal tab for shifter clearance. Over the winter I plan on seeing if I can make the stand straighter so it fits like it did originally.

Okay I just went down and pulled off my kickstand and figured out the deal. Two things make it looser and pull out towards the shifter.

    1. The part that attaches to the frame (forked end with bolt holes in it) had bent apart a little bit, instead of looking like a " U " it was visibly "V" shaped, making it wobble no matter how tight you do the bolt. I put it in a vice and made it straighter.

    2. The non-threaded bolt hole (outside one) was bigger than the bushing section of the attaching bolt, obviously worn after 25 years of kickstand up-and-down. Nothing you can do about this other than finding a bushing of exactly the right thickness to put between the bolt and the stand.

After bending the U/V in the vice and tightening the attaching bolt as tight as possible it sits noticeably closer to the frame, easily an inch and a half at the rear end of the stand.

Between doing that and pulling off the rubber foot I can shift normally now, no more interference with my foot.

    Try that, good luck!

Just take the shifter linkage off and you can change the height of the shifter

The 500's are the only early VF with this problem. The 1000R should not have any issues with the kickstand interfering with shifting. If so, I'd make sure the pivot bolt is tight.
