I was reading my new mag and found add to make 4-7 hp
by sending your air box to get modded.
Seems to be like adding a front mount inter cooler to turbo car, the cooler the air the more power you can make.
    Seems reasonable.
The heat shield wrap you can pick up at a auto parts store and do yourself to save the $ 149.00 + shipping they charge.

    Links below ck it out.

You should go det a dyno run before and after this mod and post the results.

not worth the money to dyno for only 4-7 hp but doing it yourself is much cheaper.
also they show dyno results and I have gained 12 hp on my subbie just by going w/ bigger STI top mount inter cooler so it does seem like a reasonable claim.

4 to 7 hp is a big deal ... it would be great to have a true comparison instead of set of the pants which really means nothing. It makes sence to me how this would work but it I wont buy the snake oil untill I have some input from someone that is not trying to sell me something. Running your bike on the dyno is not all that expensive if you are not going to do any tunning. the shop may even do it for a discounted rate to see if this really works.

    plastic doesn't exactly conduct heat...
i would focus more on where the air is coming from, (in between a heat soaked steering head/frame and gas tank), than keeping the hot air... well still hot...
modern sport bikes have ram air, so they are getting their air from outside the engine compartment, so they will benefit more from insulating the intake air from becoming heat soaked and hot.

HOW long does the air linger in the airbox???? How much cooling can be done in that fraction of a second?

i get what your saying about the air only being in the box for a fraction of a second... but cooling? do you mean heating right?

well with the air box over the engine I would say that the box would be alot hotter without the wrap, there is no ram air on a VFR so the box is alway filled w/ said air ( still air ) and draws more as needed.
I would say that with the bike moving it still would be colder air going into the engine then without the wrap. As far as snake oil goes well you all gave me a hard time about my "chip" but I have $ 250+ in my pocket more then someone who picked up a power comander to get basicly the same results.

anyone know the volume of air the box holds? The box will always hold that volume of air and it will be heated by what is generated off the engine and the only other way to generate colder air into the box would be to install a air duck from under the upper fairing to the airbox, but there doesn't seem to be enough room to do this.

You could try to use an outdoor thermometer, put sensor in the air box, go riding ... record temps, then mod it. insulate it or how ever.. then do it again. might see a difference, or u could use a laser thermometer they work great.
    good luck
