Where Do I Park the Car/Trailer?

I have family in WV in the eastern panhandle a area called Romney WV on RT 50.
I also have a buddy that would let you park a car and trailer at his shop I am sure.
PM if you need to.

 

You may just want to ask people here who may be along your route if they could put your truck/trailer up for a week. Then getting the details of where it would be parked you can decide from there. If your driving to the Cleveland Ohio area you can contact me. I have plenty of room 20' from house in a safe neighborhood. Free to boot. Otherwise you may want to find cold/outside storage areas. Most are secured by fencing.

The bad thing about leaving it in a large parking lot somewhere is the police may think it's stolen or something and tow it. You may want to think about contacting the local police to let them know what the deal is before doing something like that.

I've also done the joey_dude thing with the bike in the room. Always first floor with parking in front.

 

Police are very unlikely to tow unless there is a justifiable reason...and easily justified to boot. Otherwise, the officer himself may find himself antiing up for the tow and storage. Been there and done that. Technically I was right but poor judgement on my part (rookie). Towed an uninsured car off the road and could not locate the owner for a couple weeks. Law says I was right but none the less, I almost got stuck with 3 weeks of storage.

But, private property owners can have you vehilcle towed from their property so definately check in with the owner of any lot you decide to park in.

 

I have in-laws in WV, but they would probably strip it down and sell it....lol Seriously.

I spoke to a night manager at a Pilot a year ago (this was at the C-Store on the premises catering to the 4-wheel cagers) and she pointed to the edge of the lot where I could feel free to park my sled and trailer for a week.

I was just broaching the idea, and I figured that I shouldn't regard what she said as authoritative. But, that's what got me thinking about this.

I'd guess that there was some personal rapport you established in that spot in Tennessee. I'll keep that in mind.

Just last night I was reading a book in Wesley Clark's Great Generals series. I was reading about Thomas Jackson's late '61 expedition. The city of Romney was a battle that was forfeited by the Union only because of Jackson's reknown. Maybe your friends are torn by that (things are complicated), but Jackson was a great man.

If you can't find what you are looking for, my barn is always available to fellow riders. There is more than enough room in the barn for a truck, trailer, and much more. We have no problems with security out there. We haven't locked the house for 15+ years and all of our vehicles sit in thte driveway with the keys in them and unlocked. My bike stays in the barn with the keys in it as well.

I live in Indiana so it would add a day or two to your ride. Nevertheless, the room is there if it is needed.

I've only seen them around town. I expect they would be pretty scary out on the windy highway.


Plus, the backends, 'round those rear doors, seem prone to rust for some reason.

But the basic concept of the vehicle is appealing.
