Hey everyone. My name is Mike and I just recently purchased a 2003 VFR800. It has some cosmetic damage but no mechanical problems with the exception of a bent left side radiator which I will be replacing. Even with the scuffed up broken plastics it passes inspection without a problem and when you are riding it you would swear you just bought it brand new at the dealer. looking at it is a different story. I will be getting all OEM parts for it over the winter and it will be in tip top shape. The bike was not dropped at speeds but instead it was backed into, hard, and knocked over in a parking lot. A grandma did a hit and run!

I also have a 1979 CB750 which i turned into my own creation which you can see in my signature. It's a fun bike but not comfortable for long rides and reliability is questioned. it's a fun bike and turns heads but after the previous winter of ripping/hacking the bike up I realized that functionality over form is more important to me. I have researched plenty of bikes over the past few months and each time the VFR suited me best. I was not planning on getting one until spring but I found one on ebay that had the mileage I wanted, the year I wanted, and even with the price of fixing the cosmetic damage it still comes out to a great deal. And as fate would have it, only 45 minutes away almost beside the building I spent 3 years working in.

the bike has been been growing on me like a weed you cannot get rid of. the power is great for me and the novelty of vtec kicking in with a little bump in noise and power is fun. I am more concerned with where the bike will take me than how fast it can get there :) if I wanted a bike for speed I would not have chosen a VFR. But all these personal quirks told me time after time a VFR is for me. And time and time again, it puts a smart ass smirk on my face whenever I ride it! The only disadvantage of the bike so far is when I turn the key off to go into work for 9 hours of ripening bananas!

Welcome. Damage doesn't look too bad, easy fix up.

I'm originally from Lancaster also. Had a '78 CB I cafe'd out but sold last year. Fun rides but you're right on about reliability and long ride comfort.

    Enjoy the VFR!

Welcome, neighbor! Good luck fixing her up. At least you can ride her now (do you have mirrors?)! Grandama has a rather skeptical look on her face, though! Watch out for the horse leavings in the road out that way! I'm sure you've encountered them many times.

You uncle is a Harley guy? I would have never of guessed :) I am in NJ and sometimes frequent the Poconos along with some other members of this board. Is Lancaster in Bucks County? Good luck with the bike, its doesn't seem like it needs much to get it looking like new again.

    Welcome!
It looks like a very clean bike.
So are you going to use the pic of uncle on the bike for blackmail if needed?

Welcome aboard. As Dino mentioned, there's a few of us across the river that ride up your way.

It looks like the previous owner opened up the front to allow for better air flow across the cooling system. :).

    Good luck!

Howdy from a little South of you. I'm about 1/2 hour North of B-more. I'm always heading up towards PA when I'm out for a ride.

Thank you for the warm welcome everyone, great to be around other VFR Riders.

Thank you! Yes, I am from a harley Family as a young kid. since 5 years old I have been riding a wide variety of dirtbikes which included some small old street legal enduros from the 70's I grew up on yamaha and in my teens fell in love with hondas. I guess it rubbed off when it came time to find something for the road.

I have only come across maybe 2 cafe'd bikes in the area, including all makes models. did you notice this at all? Harleys seem to be the majority of the population followed by a mix of sport bikes and old jap bikes that seem to be in abundance. And scooters as well.

Where did you move away to? I live one exit north of Ephrata off of 222 for better reference. The breakfast Run was an uneventful trip living so close to it. 15 minute ride vs some groups coming from other states. I would get there and want to leave after 15 minutes because I hardly spent any time riding haha.

This is exactly what I plan on doing. First and foremost I will get the important things. mirrors, the one turn signal, left radiator even though it doesn't leak it is bent towards the electric fan. I am assuming this fan kicks on around 220 range? I doubt it will get near that temp with only riding to work and back right now but it needs to be replaced.

other cosmetic parts will come later. As much as I love the look of the bike, I would rather be riding one with a cracked fairing than having it apart of nice days waiting for the right deal to show up.

Mirrors are coming soon! is it just a coincidence that Sunday, the same day most riders consider the best day to ride, is the same day all the mennonites and amish are on the roads in vast numbers with their horses leaving plenty of road "obsticles" to avoid??? The more aware you are the less you need to clean sunday evening off of your fenders haha.

Lancaster is in lancaster county actually ;)

I have friends in the poconos area. Well Scranton actually, I have been spending weekends up there recently too.

Any of you local guys ever do the Ephrata Breakfast Run??? I have not gotten out this year yet with the CB.

Welcome from across the Susquehanna. We do a first Sunday right and sometimes run to Ephrata. Nice quick run. Lately though, we've been venturing out to new places - MD, Bedford, Poconos... fantastic roads in this part of the country.

I've never done the Sunday Ephrata run, and I've forgotten the details. When and where does everyone meet?

It's the FIRST Sunday of every month. People start showing up at 8:00AM or so. If you get there at noon, half (or more) of the people are gone. The American Legion puts on an all you can eat breakfast. My cruiser buddies and I usually head up that way when we all can get together.

    Sunday, Sunday Sunday

    Hey neighbor! Welcome

I am a few exits north of you in Sinking Spring.

This Sunday we may ride Route 125 to Shamokin. We normally leave from the west end of Robesonia and run 501 over the Blue mt.

The Ephrata bike show is normally the first Sunday of the month and buy 12 / 1pm the stunters head to a remote part of Rt 125 just east of Hegins, it's interesting to watch sometimes.

    No stunters in our group.

If you’re ready to roll by this Sunday let me know.

Thanks for the invite! This Sunday is out unfortunately. I finally got around to taking the Motorcycle Safety Course and Sunday is my final day for the riding part of the program. 8:00AM to 1:00PM at the Ephrata High School.

i have most of the essentials to ride now to get me through the winter minus a turn signal. Once spring time rolls around my VFR should look like it's off of the showroom floor and will be eager to ride.
