Is everything between these two generations swappable? I'm mainly interested in putting a 4th gen engine in my 3rd gen.

    No, not everything is interchangeable.

However, anything is possible. Just don't expect a plug n' play type install.

Thanks, my main concern is there's a variable "knock" when the motor's idling and it vibrates a lot when accelerating passed 5k then it stops shaking around 8k

engines are 99% the same; just change the carbs and change the stator (wiring is different most of the time). very easy swap...

Are any of the plastics interchangeable? Like can I put all of the front plastics(headlight, mid fairings, lower fairings)?

    What about the centerstand?

I just bought a 1993 that has no centerstand.

    Well just dang. Bum-o-rama.

What about any other bikes of the day? Lots of smaller parts are interchangeable with other same-age machines - mirrors, oil cooler, various levers & switchgear, etc... no other bike of same vintage uses the same centerstand? Maybe Honda publishes a cross-reference guide for boneyards?

Since frames are very different engines would probably not swap easily.

THe front clip will swap out - as long as you take the "entrire" front body panels from a 4th gen to a 3rd gen.

Not sure about the gauges, or how well the 3rd gen gauges fit the swapped-out 4th gen front end bodywork. Maybe someone who's done the swap can chime in?

Also, not sure of the rear body panels & seat...

Could a 3rd gen take a 4th gen centerstand if the 4th gen exhaust was used? I've read that the 4th gen centerstand won't fit the 3rd gen because of clearance for the 3rd gen exhaust collector - but using the 4th gen exhaust would eliminate the collector...

Turns out the 4th gen exhaust on the 3rd gen, loses the 3rd gen centerstand. It "may" be possible to fabricate a spacer. I've seen pics of a TBR exhaust pipe & stock centerstand on a 3rd gen in the UK. Will check it out on my bike.

Well, TBR no longer makes an exhaust for the 3rd gens. Motad were very un-helpful when asked about fitment. Delkevic's pipes fit the 3rd gen, but aren't a "perfect" slip-fit, they take a little convincing. The Delkevic pipes are lighter than stock, and they "do" let you keep the centerstand on a 3rd gen. They save about 5-7 punds weight but cost around $225-$275. THe stock pipes cost about $50 and also let you keep the centerstand.

I'm thinking I'll go back to the stock exhaust.

I'm new to this forum, been trying to search the rear wheel compatibility between 3rd and 4th gen but without luck until I saw this post. Could you let me know what the answer is? Thanks
