Since it's been what, 8 years since the last new VFR introduction and I assume we'll have to wait for another 8 years for the next one, it would be cool to actually be there in Japan. I guess Gen 5 had a pretty short run of 3 years.

I went to this show about 5 years ago when I was there on business. Tokyo is a cool place and this convention center is as well and I recall there being good train access.

I just saw it on tv! Watching the Military channel and a Honda commercial comes on about slashing prices. The show a cruiser bike and $6200 off price, then they show a 6th gen VFR $2650 off price the last bike they show, for about 3 seconds is the VFR1200 then the commercial ends. I couldn't believe it. So I rewound(dvr) and yep there it was. So could this be considered the first public showing?

i visited my Honda dealer today to get the low down on this thing.
they know me very well so i trust what they tell me.

    heres the low down...

    1. the VFR 1200 will be on sale in NZ from 10 Jan 2010 .

    2. local price is set at $29,990.00(30K)..thats NZ dollars,so the us exchange is about 72 cents to the NZ dollar...lets say 20% less in USD as aworst case scenario. will be interesting to see if that pans out?

3.i have booked a demo ride.

now heres the kicker.......the gen 6 in its current form is due to stay in range for at least 2 to 3 more years.

what they think is that the 1200 is aimed squarely at the blackbird & st1300 users and moreso BMW's market- R 1200 users.

in essence not a replacement for the 6th gen.

so whats to come then?...well how about a V4 powered fireblade for the sports brigade.

yep the skinny is that Hondas long term intention is to run V4's across the range to help differentiate it from its competitors.
(much like Subaru has done with the boxer engine and AWD.

    so the ranging would look something like this;

VFR 1200-2 versions -sport F model & touring full dress t model later.(same as BMW)

VFR 800 - mid range sport tourer

    cbr1000 -v4 Hyper sports (Hmmmm......CBR600 V4 also?)

so if there is to be a true 7th gen replcement the VFR 1200 aint it..IMO its a whole new category, and much like the VF 1000 was to the VF 750 waaay back in 83.

    1. I've read similar dates for sale in Europe and North America.
    2. I can't see Honda releasing this at ~$22K US. That would be crazy, who would buy it? Maybe $16K US tops, $22K NZD. And that's a stretch.
    3. Cool!

I think these have been the V4 line hints from Honda all along, they'll be expanding the V4 to other models in the next few years, depending on the initial VFR1200 sales.

The VF1K in '83 had a lot of similarities to the VF750, way more than what's being speculated about now between different models.

Either way, should be a few exciting years if Honda comes through with new V4 bikes.

I hope your NZ dealer is correct. I can live without a VFR superbike if Honda has intentions of doing a V4 CBR. The current Blades are getting such tremendous reviews that leaving everything else alone and adding a V4 should be make for my ideal bike.

Keep my 6th gen for longer riding, add the CBR to the garage for those purposes and all is right in the world, or at least on my corner of the street.

Very interesting Richard, man if it I figured this may be what Honda was up too as it made sense as a new category of a machine. Now I doubt very much they'll touch the CBR with V4s, but good to hear, sorta they are thinking of keeping the 6th gens, could it be they have a lot of over stock?? but boy, lets hope this new beast isn't $18K.
