I've been using these on various bikes for years, and they work great.

For the guy who mentioned the right one getting hotter...that's because the right one is insulated by the throttle tube, while the left one is in direct contact with the alum. bar (aluminum is a fine conductor if heat ).

I took the above advice and just installed the Ergo-2 grips on my 2000. I have been very pleased. Installation took about an hour, figuring out where to run the lines and soldering the connections. I tapped off from my license plate light for the power. The were tight enough without epoxy that I didn't glue them down. I used a couple of 14 ga copper wires as spacers to tighten the clutch side a bit. I can still force a rotation, but they feel very secure to me. YMMV.

I installed the switch in the little piece of plastic that extends up under the mirror (left side). I had to bend the tabs slightly to fit, but it worked out to be clean spot to put it.

The grips themselves are thicker than the stock ones I removed, but they are comfortable.

The first cold morning I turned them on, I thought "Why didn't I do this years ago?" Here in NH it's already starting to frost at night, so these grips will definitely help extend my season a bit.

Is there a preferred place to pull power for heated grips on a 5th Gen?

You can always run your own wire to the battery to make sure your wire gauge is large enough for the current draw...

    right grip hotter than left

I found a great solution to this problem--on the left grip, I installed the heating element right on top of the stock grip and put the heat shrink on top of that--works great!! Don't do this on the throttle side because the heat shrink material is not "grippy" enuff.

I use Honda OEM heated grips, they are fantastic. 6 heat settings and they go into standby mode when you stop, then repower when you start moving again. They have been on the bike since before I bought it (4 years ago) and not a moment's grief

Thank you for bringing this back up!

I just had lunch with a friend today and the topic of heated grips came up. He has an extra set of heated grips that he is willing to sell me, but they seem like a pain to put on... some business about threading the wires through the handlebars and having to drill into the bars as well.

I was also talking to someone else today about this. Seems HotGrips Ergo2 has positive reviews. Derstuka, what did you end up doing?

    I prefer this type https://www.amazon.com/Heat-Demon-External-Motorcycle-210019RR/dp/B001AWRCJO

Super easy to install and you don't get the "fat" grip effect of grips with the heating elements molded in, i.e. Honda. With these, the grip thickness stays almost exactly the same and you can use any grips you want.....and you can change the grips without messing around with the heating elements. With a shot of hairspray, any grip will slide right over them and a couple safety wire wraps will keep them there.
